Just picked one of these up and cant find an awful lot of info on them anybody got the lowdown, I've figured out about 1600 made for export, other than that these are rarely written about |

The only info I've seen in the internet classified ads are they were for '94 export, no AR-15 markings and only about 300 to 400 remained in the US. That's an interesting model what features does yours have, is it similar to the R6520 Gov't Model Carbine except the markings? |

I had one a few years back. I had a letter with it that came from Colt. Maybe it was from the distributor. Something about 350 of them left stateside from a contract over run (overseas customer). Rare and overlooked variant. I actually think it is the best roll mark of the bunch, but hey...  I have a pic somewhere...

| I ran into one of these carbines about ten years ago and i was told one story about the carbine. The carbine was a small contract for a forien order which was cancelled and colt sold the guns to the open retail market here in the usa to regain cost and expenses. |

The R6521 had different die roll markings as identified in the picture above and was issued for sale as preban status long gun way after the green lable production guns were haulted by Colt in 1989. The Carbine retrained the same large front pin, grey finish, the same internal parts of the older green lable 6520 Goverment Carbine and the two position stock was standard equipment. This modle is a highly collectible based on simple numbers released during this time frame and only would be beat by the original 6721 Tactical Carbine modle which only 300-350 units were made for Civilian use before the cut in production for Law Enforcement took full control in late 1994. One more preban rifle would be the Z Coat 6550 with camo factory finish has always been on the high list. Most of this information is from simple memory and i stand to be corrected if there are some discrepencies. When i first observed the Colt Carbine it was a big surprize and i failed to buy the gun, The dealer was exploting its price way above the 1.5k mark at the time which was way to much as i had two 6520's in the safe and i just laughed and moved on. The 6521 is special gun for the serious collector,

thanks for all the info, here are a couple pics   This rifle has the bayonet lug, previous owner drilled an extra hole in the stock tube making it a 3 position, flash hider had been changed, had a Colt .170 pin match trigger and hammer installed, non Colt handguards. got it pretty much back to the way it should be, I guess, certianly not "Pristine" as it was described, not too bad for $1100.00 though Got a line on a complete lower of the same kind but still working on it

thats good news on the bayonet lugs, Mine has the lug. I did get alittle information from one reliable source that says, there is virtually no info on these mysterious carbines and goes on to say that these are exactly like the early 90's Government Carbines except for serial number and markings. Also says there may have been far less than 1600 made, His box is marked 6520 with no other designation, and 99% sure these were a foreign contract and nearly all were exported. Still gotta be more info than appears |

I have always found the inforamtion about a this carbine as a forien order a little bizzare......Why would Colt manufacture these guns with the preban blue lable features such as the sear block and front screw pin which were installed for various reasons By Colt but never required by law at the time of manufacture. You would think a contract ear marked for forien export would retain all preban features, including the front push pin. I would guess that their are many potential reason for this carbine exsistance and i would bet that the guns were originally made for a USA company or firm which would explain the sear block or the absence of a bayonet lug on some units based on parts and supply at the time or special run of guns for a large retail wholesale dealer that went south for some reason. Forien export paid and funded by USA might also be a reason for the carbine. Its things like this that make things interesting.

I had one back during the ban. I couldnt resist the urge to shoot it so i sold it to a collector (he has already posted in this thread) that would appreciete it more. The information that I discovered back then was that it was made for export to Isreal. Stokes was the one who told all of us that so I believe it to be reliable information. I have a bunch of pictures somewhere but i will have to find them. One of the most interesting things i remember about it, was that it had the deeper feed ramp cuts, "4" was marked on the barrel extansion, but there was no "4" on the outside over the cloverleaf. It had a large pivot pin and a two position stock. The barrel was 1/7. |
Got another Lower on the way, serial CC00154X,  Looking for a complete upper for it but still not sure as to weather they had the bayonet lug or not, I've seen them both with and without, any other info FRO, find them pictures yet? Mine does not have the "4" on the barrel extention and has the lug, must have been some interesting transition stuff at the time, did yours have the lug Thanks for the help so far, still looking for more |

Sorry about that. i got preoccupied. I cannot find the ones of the fed ramps or the other details. These are all I could find. These were taken long ago with a poor quality camera. I'm not gonna post the full serial number since a fellow board member bought it. He can post it (and current pics) if he wishes. One thing that I had forgotten about it. Although it looked new and unfired, there was a serious color difference between the upper and lower. There was no carbon on the gas tube at all and the bolt was clean, leading me to believe that it was never used. LOOK HERE FOR PHOTO ALBUM    |
We in CT are in the unique position of having 2 assault weapons bans. One, "the list", names specifically the Colt AR15 and Colt Sporter, the other is a mirror of the old Federal Ban. Firearms on "the list" had to be registered in '93, and cannot be transfered between residents or imported into the state. This puts us in the unique position of not being able to purchase the only AR15 type rifle that is MADE in this state in Pre-Ban config. So, for folks in Connecticut who want to own a Colt in Pre-Ban config for whatever reason, it looks like this is the only way to do it. It's not an AR15, it's not a SPORTER, and it's made before 1994. Looks like a win! |

I don't see how that is any different or special than a modern 6520. Quite frankly I'd pay less for that gun since is has a double pin block and no pushpin. |
