Never seen a TA31-CH at the time so maybe. I'm now comfortable with the TA-31A but the target is obscured a bit at 200m |

Does anyone know when SOCOM profile barrels started showing up for SF and the 75th? And how rapidly the barrels were shifted to that standard?

View Quote Over 20 years ago around 01-02'. We were getting cook offs after mad minute in an ambush with Govt profile barrels in the mid 90s. The SOCOM barrel was designed as a heat sink. SOCOM ran test back in the late 90s on this. Steve Holland would share the data with me at the time as we were both working up at 5th Gp Staff then. |

Would it be fair to assume that by OIF II-III most if not all of the M4A1s had been converted? Working on an oddball Ranger Regiment clone after happening into an ITL MARS, looks like it was from 2004-5. Figured it would use a SOCOM barrel but wanted to check before embarking on that search.

View Quote No as some guns could be off somewhere or during rebarrel of shot out gun, Govt profile used instead as that is what was available (Block 1/1.5) When Block IIs first came out the DD RIS II M4A1 used cut down Govt profile barrels from Crane. DD RIS II M4A1 w/ FSB reused the SOCOM/Govt barrel on the gun. Both are correct for Groups. I rebarrel with what I have on stock down range. If I have both, give the shooter a choice. Every part is a durable expendable except for the lower receiver. Guns get totally rebuilt at times or parts replaced as needed. IE wear items. CD |

Im going to throw up my aimpoint pro with both the new qrp1 and qrp2 mount up. I also got the replacement battery caps and the adjustment caps to make it look like the old m68 cco we had. It has just been mounted on my rifle, but never fired and only a couple weeks old if that. Purchased from eurooptics. My acog should be here tomorrow hopefully.

@Combat_Diver
How bad was the slop or wobble between the uppers and lowers you guys used? Did you guys try to match them to fit tighter? Or generally no big deal? |

View Quote Don't remember any amount of wobble between the two. Not an inspectable item. So, no big deal. Usually during rebarrel used the same upper again. Replace parts as needed. If I was just flying in somewhere sometimes instead of rebuilding there as didn't want to bring all the tools and vise, I would just swap on a prebuilt upper. |

I picked this up today. It's the proper 74" silent sling issued early on for the m4. I ordered from two different suppliers , so I should have a spare arriving if anyone needs the spare when it arrives. In the past all I have been able to find were the 53" m16 slings.

I suppose I should have included that in my post.. That being said, I'm not sure why it's harder to find the proper 74" m4 length vs the 53" that are all over the place. A lot of people mis mark the 53" as a m4 sling and you have to be careful and make sure you are getting the 74" version. Heck sometimes they even include the wrong nsn with the 53" version when selling them online. |
