Stand down soldiers !!!! The pic is genuine. As proof, here is a real pic (no photoshop involved) of me with my Mattel M16 back in my Viet Nam days. Carry on soldiers.

Mattel sure was involved with the M16. Only the handguard was made by them for a short while.

I saw an M-16 Marauder for sale on e-bay a few weeks ago. I wanted it for my kid, but it ended up selling for $75.99. A little too much for my taste.

To all you guys that are not Vietnam veterans and are having a good laugh over someone believing the Mattel M16 receiver is the real deal, you would be amazed to know the unbelievable manufacturer stamps on some of our M-16s. Mine was a GM and I remember laughing at a Whirlpool or Maytag, can't remember which. But the thing is that there were enough ridiculous stamps to make me almost believe anything.

When I went in to pick up my SEBR my FFL dealer started talking about how he used to carry a Mattel M16 in Nam and he was serious about it.
|

That settles it. After I get my lower engraved "AUTO", see this thread:
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=177492 I am also going to get it engraved "Mattel" |

Can so one tell me a little about this movie
HEAT Did it have guns ? [;d] |

You've gotta be kidding, Heat has the best gunfight ever filmed. Imagine movie guns sounding like real guns...and Pacino used a FNC.

View Quote My pop actually has a M2 carbine with some parts on it made by general motors. Stamped right on the barrel. Huh, go figure. View Quote Well, that's because the Inland division of G.M. was the largest producer of M1 Carbines in WWII. Mine's got the same barrel stamp. They were also made by IBM, Underwood, Saginaw, and the Rock-Ola jukebox company, among others. However, AR's were not made by Whirlpool, Maytag, G.M., or Mattel. I assume - at least I desperately hope - that Robert-Rockler was either kidding about seeing AR's with those marks, or was referring to AR's that had been altered for humorous purposes. |

Personally, I think the ultimate cool factor for the various maker's stamps is IBM.
International Business Machines. Pretty appropriate, I think! What could be more businesslike than a battle rifle? 1911s were made by a bunch of companies, too. I can't remember the whole list, but at least one company famous for making typewriters made them, among the usual firearms manufacturers. Was it Smith-Corona, or Olivetti, or....??? When you're a government in need a lot of guns in a hurry, you get them made by anybody who can deliver. CJ |
|
Remington Rand is the typewriter manufacturer that you're thinking of cmj. Union Switch & Signal (railroad equipment) also made 1911a1 pistols as did Singer Sewing Machine Co.
|
|
When I carried M1911A1's for Uncle Sugar I had some made by Ithaca and Remington -Rand.
Ive'seen M-2's made By AC Delco Spark Plug and Carried M-3 and M3A1 Grease Gun's made By GM GuideLamp Division. lot a weird Shit out there. |

Edited to add: But its top secret and they really can't talk about it... |
eswanson, I have to say no I was not kidding. It has been 36 years but how can a guy forget that he carried a rifle that was manufactured by General Motors? Now, the Whirlpool/Maytag rifle that a friend carried was also the real deal and I am not positive that it was one of those names but it was definitely manufactured by a washing machine company. You need to remember that the green machine was in full swing in those days and a lot of pork barrel contracts for weapons and ammunition were being awarded by Congressmen as payola for political contributions. |

The mattel rumour has been around for a pretty good while. I got into a discussion about this with a nimrod friend of a friend who thought he knew something. I was pretty sure that Mattel had never been involved with production of the m-16, so i bet him 50 bucks and wrote a letter to Colt Firearms public relations department. About 10 weeks later I received a reply from Colt stating emphatically that Colt Firearms and Mattel had never had any sort of business association whatsoever. There was also a 3-4 page sheet with a brief history of Colt and the m-16 and some other Colt brochures. According to the P.R. person at Colt, this is a topic that they deal with fairly often. Needless to say, I won 50 bucks.

M16A1's were made for the US Govt by only three(3) companies
1.) Colt 1-9mil range 2.)Hydra-Matic Division of GM 3mil range 3.) Harrington & Richardson 2mil range Anyone that tells you they carried, used or saw an M16, M16A1 or XM177 series made by anyone else while in the US Military is full of shit. Mattel never made any M16's or any M16 parts. A1 parts are not marked with any companies names or codes other than molding codes(A,B,C,D) The Marauder was the only M16 they ever made. |
