Looks like somewhere before the 7000 range serial number is the cut-off for the rare large-pivot flat top upper. I'm curious to know how many were actually made.

Thanks, Ekie, for taking the time to do these data bases.

If a few of the guys will post thier info, we could narrow down the big front pin verses little pin serial number range.  Helps when doing online "shopping", at least that is part of the idea here....

Am planning on doing SPII, 6601, 6551, and others...........

Oh, an interesting thing to know on these is when Colt started using the "F" FSB.  I am guessing it is going to be about 1996.

Paladin's current Zombie rifle was a neutered Colt MT6700 in a previous life.  I bought it NIB June 1995.  Per Colt's customer service representative, it was built Feb 1995.

Colt Match Target Competition HBAR
s/n CCH 0020XX

"F" marked FSB.  right side of FSB marked "S", "RI in circle", and "2".  Non-chromelined 20 inch HBAR roll marked "C MP 5.56 NATO 1/9".  No flash hider, no bayonette lug.

Upper forge mark "C AF", "C in box" above port door.  No "T" marks.  "C" marked bolt carrier.  "MPC" on bolt.  Is the "sear cut" the machined recess in the upper above the selector, if so it IS present.

Detachable carry handle ("6/3" range marks) forge marked "AH" in a circle on left side above rear sight.  The "H" is stylized, and it's left side is the right side of the "A".

Lower has "large hole" sear block visible on both sides.  I need to locate the original "large pin" FCG to check the hammer marking, etc.  Front pivot pin is small, no detent or "weep" hole present, and has screw head on left side only.  Buttstock screw very heavily secured with locktight, needed to clamp stock in vise and use LARGE screwdriver to remove.

A close contender for "THE BEST RIFLE" I have ever owned, and it shot dime sized 100 yard groups right out of the box!

Some of this info I borrowed from Biggerhammer's Colt AR15 Variants chart. I tried to keep it close to your format.

Model #R6700DC, Sporter Conversion Kit, Colt gray finish, Upper forge code - small triangle forward of port door, left side says "COLT 223", Carry handle forge code - Left side forward of sight, broken "A", 6/3 elevation wheel, Small pivot pin, Sporter bolt carrier, Blue extractor buffer, Blue label box, A2 flash hider with peel washer, No "T" numbers, Barrel marked "C  MP  5.56 NATO 1/9  HBAR", Triangular handguard cap, Sight base markings - right side - "F O 8" (the "O" has "RI" inside), Forward assist, Case deflector, No bayonet lug. Weight 5.5 lbs.

ETA that the Biggerhammer chart says that the Sporter Conversion Kit was introduced in 1993.

That website must be refering to the 22LR conversion kit?  Colt did not sell uppers until the 1995/96 time frame.

Got it in there, an your does not have a CAF forge code on the upper receiver?

Well, no, the Biggerhammer chart specifically notes it as .223, who knows?

And no, my upper has no forging marks. Just the small triangle in front of the port door.

Your info states that no flash hiders were installed after 1995. Mine has an A2 flash hider.

Want me to post pics?

OK I will looked it up, in regards to when.  I remember it as being 95/96.  Could be off a couple of years.

Yeah, no flash hiders on the MATCH TARGET 6700, but think conversion kits were offered both ways?

Pics are always good.

Did not get a scope mount with yours?  Or one of those conversion pins, and acuwedge?

I bought it used. The Guy who sold it to me said it was all there. No accuwedge or conversion pin in the box.

He sold it to me with a scope mount. The guy threw in a carry handle as part of the negotiations. I just forgot about that little detail. So maybe my carry handle info is not correct.

I don't know if it's a legit scope mount or not. It has the COLT script on one side and (uh oh) B-Square on the other. It works, that's all that really matters, I guess.

Pics of the enigma coming up.

Yeah, that would be the correct mount that it came with.  They usually had a conversion pin and acuwedge too.  Will try and remember to look them up tonight.  I still have the Colt literature on these conversion kits.  There was like 50 variations.

Looked up the R6700DC conversion kit, it was supposed to come with mount, acu-wedge, and conversion pin, and no carry handle, suggested retail price was $550.  Judging from the lack of forge code on the upper I would guess the upper dates from 1994.  If you take the handguard off you should see a two digit number just behind the FSB.  Later barrels have a date in that same place.  It should also lack the "F" marking on the left side of the FSB.  I went ahead and moved your upper to prior to 1995.
