Not bad; looks like a "Parts Bin Gun", but the simplicity of the carbine is appealing. Nice work.
Looks cool. Now you just need to go over it with steel wool. Get some tape for a mag or two, big black rubberband(for holding a extra mag), and a IDF sling..
No you need to get one of those hot looking IDF chicks to model with your gun...then it will look authentic.
Nice build....simple is good. |
That rifle looks VERY handy. Close to featherweight compared to the tricked out ponies out here.
Where is your IDF sling? Get one here: www.dsgarms.com

Thanks guys! I’m not too sure on the weight, but the darn thing is short and light. The pic made famous on here of the IDF soldier was my inspiration for this build! |
Looks good. M4\A1 hybrids are pretty cool. I've got one myself that's about 95% done.
Nice set up.
I like the A1/M4 hybrids, too. I sometimes wonder if the A2 upper upgrade was worth it for our military.. I've got a L/M marked A1 upper/ PWA A2 lower with a A1 FS/16in pencil barrel AR15 going up for sale soon. It is as simple as it gets and I like it a lot, but I much prefer my full sized A2 Colt instead so my carbine is being sold. I am waiting for my FFL application to be approved first. |
I don't recall ever seeing a 20-rounder in a Izzy weapon. |
Its from Bushmaster (Anchor Harvey forge mark ). I’m not partial to the M4 handguards, they are just too fat for me to hold comfortably! |
It looks like this type of configuration is becoming more popular. Simple, no nonsense, and 100% useful!
Did you keep the GG&G side mounts with the Vickers sling? I'm running a Boonie Packer 2pt(the Vickers was based on it) and I found the FSB mount was too far forward to balance right. |
Yup. Same set up. Runs perfect for me.
Just shows that there is no such thing as "the best" or "the perfect" where personal preference for what works comes into play |
Wow - with the changes you made, yours is almost identical to the one I'm putting together except mine will have a Vltor stock. You didn't happen to also switch out the rear sight for an XS same plane aperture did you? |
Tying stuff to the FSB isn't a smart idea unless it was designed to withstand high temperatures. My Magpul XT rail covers were designed to handle the heat generated from sustained firing, but I could still feel a lot of heat coming through the railed handguards. My ProMag VFG allowed me to hold onto the carbine w/o 1st degree burns.
Oh my god, Yesterday I was installing Magpul "lumpy" plates on my mags and now I find out I'm making a virtual copy of Lumpy's M4. Somehow you have subconsciously brainwashed me!!! |
and what on earth made you finally give up on the A2 grips? it is the one thing i just haven't been able to make myself modify................. |
I have never learned to like the A2 grip. The damn finger shelf just doesn't feel right to me. I run Hogues on my other ARs, but I really like the clean look of original looking grip. Maybe I'll try a duckbill... |

Check out the lightweight barrel action! |
Look! there's the mysterious and rare lightweight 14.5 inch barrel! |
What's so mysterious about it? Lots of people have 'em. Here's mine on my Bushy sear gun. Pat 0-1-25 |

WOW!
I just ordered a DPMS superlight bbl. and you have just inspired my next build. I was going to use a flattop upper but I am now getting an A1 and the IDF sling! |
I love the A1 and C7 type upper lightweights, but for my purposes I have really come to appreciate the flattop upper.
Does anybody have any pics to add of an IDF lightweight barrel and a flattop upper or have a personal carbine like this? |
Actually, so far as I can tell, your pic shows the one Colt model that the IDF in fact did buy in complete form from the factory. All the other types you see (and you'll see every variation in existance), are put together pieces by IDF Ordnance, as they've replaced worn out/shot out upper pieces w/more current parts. So a truly "IDF Carbine" in it'a original form, would have the A1 or C7 type upper, the featherweight early type carbine barrel, first issue HGs and stock, all on an A1 type lower. But WTH, since they're using every concievable variation of the AR imaginable anyway, jus build what suits ya |

Ch139, I simply love the barrel! It is my second one and it has moved to my all time favorite configuration! |
I’m fortunate to get to go to the air base and shoot some of those GUUs and absolutely love the ones with the M4 barrels. Very unique weapon. Very simple and functional.
That's nearly perfect. <needs a Hogue grip> |
Could you please tell me where I could purchase a 14.5" A1 profiled, 0.625 FSB, 1/7" chrome lined barrel today? They're scarce--the only ones that are available are old Colts and Diemarcos. CMMG will be producing correctly profiled lightweights in the coming months. A hacked 16" just doesn't cut it (so to speak). I like your 14.5" barrel, by the way. Is it a Colt? |
The 723 came with an A2 lower, and an A2 grip. Here's an IDF shot. Looks like a 653--has a tear drop forward assist, no case deflector, so it's an M16A1 upper receiver (not the C7/modified A1 upper). |
iirc the shorter barrel one is his personal weapon and the other one is a squad level weapon with an attachment for launching tear gas grenades at rioters (good for dispersing the civilians that the terrorists use for human shields so you can cap the terrorists)
most of the weapons I saw there were skinny barrels with A1 sights, though I did get a kick out of the M4s with bipods clamped onto the hanguards and ACOGs with no BUIS. That's one way to do a recce and apparently it works. |
