I have a post ban clone of an SP1 that currently contains an "A2" style muzzle brake.  Ideally, when there in no more ban to worry about, I would like to replace this brake with an original three prong flash suppresor.  Anyone have an idea where I could find one and what the cost may be?

Thanks in advance,

Gary

I've no clue what the item in the above photo reproduces.

It's not a XM16E1 "3-prong" flash supressor though.

I don't know the proper nomenclature either , but apparently it existed.......

That is a repro of the "duckbill" flash hider used on the Colt/Armalite model 01.  Real ones are hard to find.

I have never seen a 3 prong FS in person, does the 3 prong FSs have the "flats" for then wrench? every picture I've seen doesn't have em.  Does that mean when using 3 prong one has no choice but to use a USGI 3 prong FS wrench?

You are correct, you have no choice, unless of course you have a very strong grip.

I assume  in that pic that is a real duckbill??  They are fairly easy to make from a standard 3 prong, but are retro-cool.  Early M16's are tha coolest!!

Anybody know how the 3-pronger should be radially timed?

Yes, you needed a wrench that fit between the three prongs.

No need to time them, just like the A1 birdcage.

I would imagine the best setting is for the prongs to be at 12, 4 and 8 o clock.  That is if you want the FS to look upright and symmetrical.

"Timing' does not matter on the 3-prong.

I thought I was the only one that had respect for the old 3-prong.  I call it the "poor man's vortex".

I'm there too man.  3-Prong is the ONLY way to fly.  I'm putting them on ALL my rifles after the 13th.

Tested side by side on identical barrels the 3 prong gave as much flash as the A1 and A2 and much more than the Phantom and Vortex.

Tested by whom?  With what ammo?
