This thread is in response to several members curious as to the different ways to STUFF certain types of ammunition in standard size 50Cal ammo cans.  Don't forget your dessicant packs..........

My way is not the only way. By all means if you can add to the info on this thread. Post your pics and ideas freely.

I would have fixed up a Wolf ammo can but I didn't want to get this thread locked.

This appears to be a way to sneak more ammo porn into the system!

BTW, thanks for the ideas.

Thanks blackeye. Good stuff.

ETA: A tacked ammo-can stuffing guide would be a good thing.

I buy mine at the boating stores.  They are a little large, about the same size a the Cheaper than Dirt link.  Big is good.
BTW I think it would be cheaper to buy new ones than To recharge: From CTD.   "Put pack in 250-degree conventional oven overnight. Can be recharged this way many times. It will be hot when you remove it from the oven! Do NOT put in microwave or throw in campfire!"
Cost more for fuel than their worth unless you really do volume.

Great info. Thanks!

I wonder if the original post can get snipped and added to the Ammo Oracle?

Are the Adcom UAE ammo boxes the same size as the Q3131 or XM193 boxes?

Here are some more ammo storage options:
[feel free to hijack these images and mirror them elsewhere if this thread gets tacked]

FOR 20 and 50 ROUND commercial BOXES such as  Black hills.
Natec PCA used for deminstration.

8-50 round boxes fit [400 rounds], or 2x20 rounders in the place of a 50.  4 commercial boxes will then fit flat on top.

Tall 50 cal cans can hold 720 rounds of surplus .308 [SA, SB, etc.] or 1080 of the 30 round 5.56 boxes, both with plenty of room for dessicant or magazines.

Standard 50 cal cans can hold 1700 rounds of GECO or similarly packaged 9mm

Top layer:

Bottom layer:

Tall 50 cal cans can hold 1120 rounds of bandoleered [7 pocket] .223 with plenty of extra room for a 3-4 single boxes or a couple of mags plus dessicant:

Tall 50 cal cans can hold 1440 rounds of Q3131A with the first 2 layers stacked like this:

and the last layer with room for dessicant and the last 8 boxes [could be 10 boxes, with smaller dessicant, for 1480 rounds total]

+1 Big time.

I don't know how much time I've spent sitting in the floor with ammo and ammo cans all around trying to get all my ammo situated neatly into the cans.

I can confirm this-I just put 120 rounds of Q3131 on clips last night.  The clips fit into the inner boxes (with the cartridge separating cardboards removed, of course) one up the other down, and the inner box slips neatly back into the outer box.

(It's all the Q3131 I had at the moment, (one bandoleer-worth) so I figured I'd try it out.  It worked great.)

Why bother?   Just slows you down when you want it.

For those in search of dessicant, I purchase them from ULINE in bulk for much less than buying them at a retail outlet or the military surplus places.  These are new and the cheapest come in a 5 gallon pail (PLENTY for MOST people).

See link:  http://www.uline.com/Browse_Listing_1006.asp?desc=Tyvek%26reg%3B+Bag+Clay+Desiccants

This is what I use to seal up containers of ammo.   $55 for 150 bags is NOT bad at all for the size and protect 1.67 cu feet.

Hope that helps!

The ADCOM boxes are a little smaller.   If you put the ammo on strippers the top flap will have a very slight bulge.  Almost unnoticeable though.

Well done!  Someone played some Tetris.  Hopefully my childhood Lego training pays off and I can do the same with my ammo.
