Wow.  I'm at a loss for words.

Did you try anything else through your rifle at the range?

What kind of problems?
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 4:11:37 PM EDT
[#3]
Sure did.

I had a box of American Eagle 55 grain, a box of PMC 55 grain, a box of UMC 55 grain 1997 manufacture, a box of Remington/UMC 55 grain 2000 manufacture and a final box of Rem/UMC 55 grain 2005 manufacture.

All those brands and loads were flawless in every mag I could use (USGI aluminum 20 and 30 rounders).

I've even fired Winchester Q3131A in my gun- no problems.

I saw this at a gun store and grabbed a box thinking- great mil spec 55 grain is back!

4 rounds, 4 problems. Stuck cases and feeding problems.

Only other problems I've had was with Wolf ammo.

I have some late 2004 Q3131 I haven't tried out yet.  I'd better give it a whirl.

i've had no problems with ~400 rounds of the "new" Q3131, with 04 and 05 headstamps.
rifles include a BM M4gery and a RECCE-ish thang with Denny's barrel + CMT upper atop a BM lower.

I did get a few boxes last week that had lots of different dates and stamping on the cases in the same box ( maybe 4 different stamps/years ) and some white residue on the cases.  Haven't shot any of that yet, but have put several hundred rounds of other lots through my a1 clone and a4 clone with no problems at all.

I bought 7 boxes recently, shot a few rounds and had no issues so I put the rest of it up.  It is lot number WK 66 IIRC.  Headstamps were mixed 04 and 05.

Do you have a 5.56 or .223 barrel? The brand of ammo your gun likes seems to be .223.

Just shot 2 boxes. '04,'05 headstamp. Shot the first box slow to see what kind of group i could get. The second box I let rip as fast as I could. No problems at all.

I've shot over 500 rounds of the stuff so far.  No problems.  Seems to be just as good as the old "A" variety.

The question is:

Do you have a 5.56 NATO chamber or a .223  chamber on your rifle?

Run about 300 rounds through my Bushy and no problems.
Have you tried it out on another rifle?

I think 5.56 not sure

The ammo does not run in my gun BUT it may in yours.

What brand of barrel, and are there any markings on it?

No markings or brand. It was used and built up into a gun using RRA parts.

I bought 6 boxes of it at Academy a while back and haven't shot any yet.  Four boxes are lot WL70 and two are WK31.  I'll keep my eyes on it when I hit the range.

05 brass for sure.

Edit: I only shot 4 rounds out of 1 box. I still have 2 boxes I never opened/tested.

I'm not doubting your problems.

I was involved in a training program for our department, newly created Patrol rifle Program which involved 5 tow-day classes. We shot up over 50,000 rounds of the new Q3131.

All guns were new 16" Bushmasters.

I was on the firing line the entire time.  I am only aware of 5 bad rounds.  Casemouth slightly crushed about 1/8th in causing the round to not fully seat.  We would have 1-2 cases of ammunition out of the boxes and dumped back into the cardboard case at any time (easier for 15 students to load up), so I can not tell if all of the bad rounds came from the same box/case. But the problems all showed up in the same afternoon...

Our initial purchase of 65,000 rounds does have the same lot#.

Once again, I am not doubting you had problems, but I have to say that from what I personally observed, I have no problems with the  Q3131 loading.

I have shot nearly a 1000 rounds of the new Q3131 ammo and have not had any issues.  It functions just like the Q3131A in my rifles.

I just put 240 rounds down-range this afternoon, all '05 headstamp, lot WH03 purchased at Academy sports (last 12 boxes on the shelf) today, 1/7/06.  All rounds fired normally, through a Bushmaster Modular Carbine.

I did see a technical bulletin on the Armalite web site in their tech section advising against the use of WWB Q3131 in their weapons due to a very high number of failure (non-specific) reports...

I think that stemmed from a specific lot of the older Q3131 not the new Q3131.

correct -- there were some 1999 lots of Q3131 that were FUBAR'd.
check the maryland AR15 shooters site for the specific lot numbers.
