Went to the Shot Show and got to handle some of the new gear from SF.  The Kroma was pretty cool, but personally don't have any use for it. The price on it will make you cringe as well!

What I did see that I liked were the SR/XT tape switches and a helmet mounted light. The SR tape switch hooks into the back of the XM or UM tail caps. The XT switch works with the X200 series and is basically setup for those of you that want to run the X200 as a carbine weaponlight. These switches slide onto your rail system and offer momentary and constant on.

The helmet light is small, light and has many features. It has white/blue and infrared LED's. The IFF LED continually blinks and has a run time of 350 hours. It uses 1 CR123A battery and has between 5 and 80 hours of run time depending on which output you select (high, med or low).  This system is also waterproof!

I have a few pics of the new Surefire X300, its a X200a with a visible and IR laser! Looked awesome! I have no specific info on it like cost or lumens, but it was great. Also saw a new compact HID light almost as bright (maybe even brighter) than the Beast, but it was about the size of an M6. Awesome!!! Holy crap. I have no pics of that thing though. Im super busy now, I'll post more with the pics when I can.

I hope I don't offend anyone, but the only thing I want to see new from surefire is either lower prices or a line of lights for the common man. These things are getting out of hand. I've been using surefire for at least 6 years but havn't been able to buy new for the past 2-3 years.

I understand your complaints, believe me. I have been able to buy less Surefires over the last few years compared to how many I've bought in years past. The bad news is, prices on everything, Surefire certainly among them, are going up and not down. Im no Surefire insider, just someone who has been buying and enjoying their lights for about the last 10 years. But I believe that they probably wont be making an economy line of lights. They are very proud of using the very best materials and coming out with the very best lights. This is readiy reflected in their prices.

The good news, however, is that there is now more affordable alternatives than Surefire. There are so many, I dont even know the names of all the companies making Surefire like lights. I've not seen any that really rival Surefire, but many of them are plenty good enough. This was not always the case. Maybe as little as three years ago, we had Streamlight, Maglight and Surefire. Surefire was leaps and bounds above the rest, and those who wanted a good, high power, handheld or weapon light had no choice but the bite the bullet and pay for a Surefire. Not so any longer.

I still believe Surefire makes the very best flashlights made, anywhere. Certainly the best I have ever seen. Those of us who either appreciate, enjoy or need (or all of the above) that type of quality will continue to turn to Surefire until another company makes develops the variety and level iof lights Surefire makes. Its hard to believe its going to happen anytime soon. Surefire invented the industry around these lights, and have many, many years head start.
