I got the $48 upper, it's a blem but you've got to look hard to find it. Helluva deal. Now if I can only get the other parts together.... ;)

I can't believe I'm the only one that went, hmmmm, "I wonder if the sell blemished lowers??.
They don't. hinking.gif It was worth a try for my FrankenAR, though. |
How can grizzly be selling an upper for $35 plus shipping? The Upper most be crap, I never heard of a price like that.
Other than the blemish, they are a great upper. I doubt any manufacturer has more than that actually invested in a upper. And with the blemish they can't sell it as first line product.
So they can sell it for 35 and break even or they can destroy it, recycle the AL. and make nothing. But you can be sure they are working on fixing the problems that create the cosmetic blemishes. Arc |
Anyone actually build one of these up yet?
Any problems with fit or function of the upper? Thanks Joe |
I have built one already, its jus like any other Upper. Its milspec and it jus had some refinishing flaws, thats it. they are 35bux and up for STRIPPED UPPER. so add 20bux for the right parts and its still a good deal. I can understand the apprehention, but they are worth it. IMO>

ar hunt-
the uppers blemishs are in the teflon finish and are not structural. these uppers fit and function perfectly |

To answer the question from the AR Hunt guy. (How can grizzly be selling an upper for $35 plus shipping? The Upper most be crap, I never heard of a price like that.)
We have many customers that expect the best out of us. I can’t sell these blemished receivers to them & the alum. scrap exchange is to low. When sales are up & bans are being threatened, we can manufacture 8,000 to 10,000 receivers every month. Not every receiver will be perfect. I have about 300 more A2s left that I will continue to sell until they are gone. The flat tops I have are less blemished & sell for $48.00. I only have about 40 on hand but they are going very fast. This is a good opportunity to get a quality forged upper at a killer deal. If you wanted a top quality 1st I would be happy to sell it to you for $90.00 plus $8.00 shipping. |
I hope there are some left when I get my first stipend in a week or 2, but at this rate, it doesn't seem so...I'll be back to check
Curious, what is needed to turn these into functional receivers, and then into functional weapons? Also, these would happen to be workable for a 9mm AR build would they?

Dave, I replied to your email, but want to post here as well that I am sending a Money order for a flattop later today. Please hold one for me. Thanks. |
I ordered an A2 and a flattop. The flattop is flawless with the exception of a pin prick in the coating above the ejector - at $48 a mega bargain. The A2 has some serious flaws in finish, but for the price I can live with it. The blemishes are aestetic only - The functional quality is still perfect. Both give a tighter fit on my two ARs than the (Armalite and SGW) factory stuff.
I plan on refinishing the A2 myself anyway. I figured a $35 upper would be the perfect practice piece for doing some camo work and experimenting with the durability of various finishes. Dave was great to work with - Up front, straight shooting guy. You get what he describes or better. Fast shipping too. |
Joe- I have one set aside for you. The day I see your money order is the day your receiver will ship.

Dagnabbit. I never can remember which ID I used. WIll check around, but you can IM me and I'll IM you a good one.
Sorry. |

Just email me at [email protected]

Call me the new guy, But what does it mean when someone gets on & says "Tag"
"tag"ing it makes it show up in your "My Active Topics", so you can find it at a later time.
Kinda like this. |
In my case it means that I was at work and didn't have time to read this entire thread. Posting a 'tag' allows me to come back later and find this thread easily. I'll be in touch shortly about placing an order. |

I bought 2 of these uppers. An A2 and a Flat top. The flat top was almostperfect, just one little finish mark(it took me a miniute to find it). The A2 had 2 spots where the finish was a LITTLE funny looking but you had to look for it. Well worth the price IMHO....
In Slash's case, it just means he'll have more goodies for sale on the EE soon. I bought one of LAR's stripped A2 uppers on Ebay awhile back and it was very hard to find the cosmetic flaw. I ended up selling it because things changed and I decided not to pursue the project, but I currently have one of Dave's flat tops on order and I have no doubt it'll be like the A2 that I got. |

Funny you should mention that: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=119&t=220211 |

I'm still a newb...but what's the difference between a stripped AR receiver and an 80 % receiver?
Ben |
A stripped upper receiver is one that is missing sights, forward assist and ejection port cover (if it applies to the upper). A stripped lower is one that is missing all the fire control parts, takedown pins, trigger guard, pistol grip, bolt catch and safety. An 80% receiver is a lower receiver that is around 80% complete and requires some more work such as drilling and tapping of holes. The appeal of the 80% receiver is that it is not considered a firearm and thus there is no papertrail. There are also those who take pride in "doing it themselves". |
Stripped to me imparts more work than an 80% Receiver...however according to what you said, an 80% would require more work.

Just ordered one of each for my first builds!! where do i go from here?
The LAR website is at www.largrizzly.com The site is getting a face lift & will be updated very soon. You can get a hold of me at [email protected] I'll try to help out as well as I can. I'm new to AR15.com but have been in the gun business for over 30 years.

I thought thats what he was selling here? Blems? You cant get much cheaper than $35/$45
Duh, I see that now. Heck I'd be interested in a blem lower too.
Sorry..... No blem Lowers. I do have plenty of good Lowers you can buy. they match very well with all the uppers you guys have been buying. Get with your local dealer & I will be happy to sell them to you.
I ordered my second upper from Dave, great guy excellent to deal with...and the blems are minimal
