The real 7N6 is 52 grains. 7N10 is 56 grains and the 7N22 is 57 grains.

Pop and soup cans fly well as it tumbles inside. But bowling pins barely move, and the plastic cover moves aside a bit so all you see are these dark freckles where it went inside.

Was also wondering if the 60 grain FMJ is built with the cavity in the tip a la the 53gr. variant. Or is the 60 grain FMJ 5,45 made by barnaul a "true full metal jacket".
Also, and forgive me these noob questions (and I am a 5,45 noob), what does create the tumbling effect; the bullet's small diameter and relatively long lenght or the shift in weight caused by the core after impact. Bas |

The 5.45mm round has a mild steel core with the airpocket infront of it. Impact causes the mild steel core to shift into the airpocket and then causes the tumbling.

The tumbling is caused by the fact that it is a gyroscopically stabilized rifle round which suddenly loses velocity upon tissue penetration - all .mil rifle bullets "tumble" or yaw. The air pocket in the 5.45mm round deforms the bullet and may assist in producing unusual wound patterns, but otherwise it acts like a conventional FMJ round - no controlled expansion, no fragmentation.

Barnaul FMJ has an air tip, but the lead core sticks more the the jacket. So instead of moving to increase tumble, the round relies more on being ass-heavy to tumble harder once aero stability ends on impact. In my very limited sampling, they tend to bend crescent shaped, stay intact, and the weight stays in the back 80%.

Put the dremel on a 5,45 round yesterday (after pulling the bullet and emptying the casing of course
 ).From left to right; 5,56x56 SS109, 5,45x39 Barnaul and 7,62x39 Barnaul. Sorry for the crappy picture but I think the hollow tip is still visible enough. Bas  edited to insert better picture |

does this air pocket/hollow cavity go for all 5.45 like wolf and silver bear? Wondering what 5.45 I should stock up on for SHTF.

I've read Wolf and Silver Bear 5.45mm both tumble. Wolf says it's got the airspace and Silver Bear is made by Barnual, so it probably has the same bullet just a different case coating. Barnual, in my experince has been more accurate than Wolf. Wolf will fire everytime but isn't as accurate as Barnual. I'd stick with the FMJ 5.45mm, as some have complained about feeding problems with the HP and SP 5.45mm. Barnaul blue box, Silver Bear and RAM are all made by Barnual. |
