It's impressive, but I thought ATravis11b won page 121. Sheer quality posted here is amazing either way.

Not bad it's the 1x and the big circle is great for fast shooting up close.

The 3x of that optic requires a side mount or railed dust cover with a closer eye relief which I have on something else and like better but wanted something better for folding.

It's no different than a red dot really

Eta
Honestly I would of went with a micro and the co-witness attero type mount if I did it over but it works better than what it looks like.

I have mine on a rear sight mount but it would work fine moved up to the rail.

I've been well!  I'm currently stationed in Hawaii and it is not friendly to my collection so I had to leave them behind.  The most recent pictures were from my conjugal visit over Christmas.  I've got a year and half year here and then hopefully I can get back to Texas for the last three years that will take me to retirement.

I do enjoy seeing your post and love all of the information you share with the community so thank you for that!

As far as @MNRidesHonda, I live vicariously through his Instagram post and I'm appreciative that he's still going at it.  You should see his Nighthawk Sandhawk... what a beauty although has been obsessed with his truck lately and needs to post more gun pictures.

I've been spending my time wisely by collecting parts for future builds.   I'm looking forward to putting together a full zenitco RPK74m build with a PO 4x17.... somewhat similar to yours!

I've been getting active on Reddit and Twitter recently but I need to get on Instagram too actually. I'd love to see Minh's junk

Yesterday Nictra and I were talking about where you were stationed last and I didn't remember that it was Hawaii. Definitely Hawaii must have some perks, but it also has some downsides like no shooting. When I lived in the EU for a few years it really sucked not having access to my Texas collection, so I feel your pain there

If you get back to Texas what base will it be (if you can say)? Same goes for MOS, if you can say that too. We assume it's 11B for obvious reasons but we all end up with 2 or 3 over a career so you never know

You could probably sell the ZenitCo stuff and retire today BTW...that's an impressive amount of stuff. When I get the B33RPK installed I probably will switch back to PO 4x17 like you are, it's a natural for the RPK IMO, but I'll miss Obzor which is still one of my all time favorites

I was in Colorado at Fort Carson prior to this one.... loved it so much I still have a house there. I wouldn't be mad if I ended up back in the Springs. Hawaii is beautiful when you're doing Tourist things but the day to day living is not so much especially for a freedom loving Texan.

I'm hoping I can get as close to San Antonio as possible.  Army North is there in San Antonio, Future Command is in Austin, and could always go back to Fort Hood as a last resort.

I am indeed still an 11B... I really should try and take that part of the name out.  I was a young private when I first made this account back in 07' but would prefer to be a little more incognito these days.

I'm zenitco whore for sure... I just try to snag it up when I see people selling it for reasonable precrazy prices.  I can always flip it if needed.  I've actually be very impressed with the Hexagon stuff and wish I could more of it.

I'm hoping the RPK setup will work well enough to take to some carbine matches.  I love running odd/niche guns on the clock.  It's fun to do well against standard setups.

Since this is a picture thread I'll throw out this old guy

Just picked up one of the new M77's today, also have a nice ZRAK scope on the way for it. Thinking about a flash suppressor for it, but it does look nice as-is.

I've recently added a Magpul pistol grip and and a set of Hogue hand guards to my Z-70. I also just picked up a new bird cage style flash hider from a member (@AFK47) here on the EE. My next plan is to add a set of sling swivels and maybe a side rail for a red dot:

It is actually a nice rifle for the price point, its also slightly cheaper than the polymer furniture version. Only downside is the ZRAK isn’t really that comfortable on this rifle, it sits too far back. An RS or MI side rail mount with a modern optic would be much more usable, though.

My new final Bulgarian WWAK74 wanna be Russian 82-83 AK74.  I bought a MAK90 in 1995 for $200, my first AK.  I had put original furniture on it, but it was still a neutered AK with shaved off lugs and no cleaning rod.  I was always looking at Shotgun News for AK stuff.  I saw an ad that had a color picture, (most ads then were black and white), of a laminate stock AK74.  I had never seen that kind of rifle before and I was enamored with it.  5 years later in 2000 I ended up with a SAR2 and after converting many parts, thought I had an AK74 like the ad.  Realized I didnt and kept it a near AIMS74 clone.  Then in 2015 Classic Arms started selling the DDI Waffenwerks AK74s for $550.  I sold my MAK90 for $650 and bought the WW74.  Put a Poly black Russian set of furniture on it and was almost happy.

But I still wanted that classic Afghanistan 74 laminate look.  So after shopping a lot in 2017 found the now defunct place selling Russian laminate sets and bought one for $120. 4 months later I got it.  It came honey blond, (not brown/ orange), and had a different contour, missing the stock material removed from in front of the cheek comb.  I stripped it and re-stained/ shellaced it.  Thought it would do for me.

Finally my OCD took over and I shopped for an original stock and realized the market had dried up to beyond affordable.  Kicked myself in the ass for not buying a full laminate original set in a ziplock for $25 in a local gun store in 2014.  I kept looking and found a light refinished stock at Wraith Defense for $75.  When I got it it was rough.  But I intended to refinish it anyway.

So I stripped and sanded. And stripped the hardware and repainted.

Stained it with 3 coats of Walmart Providine and 2 stains of Minwax 2 parts Gunstock and 1 part Red Mahogany.

New stock on the left and old on the right.

Now I am happy with my Bulgy wanna be Russian AK74.

I love the wood laminate 74 style stocks
