After careful examination and contemplation of the SCAR I think I'll stay with my Arsenal ...

I'll take apache's SCAR Pleaseeeeeee |

FNC based heap-
when are they going to learn not to make raised cheek welds that pound the gunstock into your face? Plus, if I am going to have a 7.62x39 SCAR rifle that accepts AK mags, I am just going to pick up an AK-47 or AKM and call it a day... why god why. Sorry Ken, thanks for the neat article...didn't mean to bust up the thread... if you haven't noticed, I just have a little disdain for the XM-8, SCAR and the other SCAR program contenders... I am hoping our project gets off the ground soon... -C |
Funny thing, that stock cheekweld actually can be adjusted to rise higher, lol. That's what I thought too. Why not just pick up one of the thousands of AK's around. Instead of carrying around another barrel. Interesting article though. |

2007, I cant wait...................I bet it would be close to $2k

What a hideous piece of crap. All the little bells and whistles seem to be just another liability to break and hang off. The buttstock looks too damn bulky to be a decent folder too. One plus is if you took the cheekweld piece off, it would make a kick ass AR stock (either collapsing or fixed)
Oooh, you can use it for fishing too!? It looks bulky, but that's JMHO |
What bells and whistles? Mark my words. Within a few years, you will all want a SCAR variant. |
How old is that article? I thought recent reports were that barrels could be quickly changed w/o the need for a seperate upper. Also, the pics show the Fal type pistolgrip. It was my understanding that the more recent pictures show them using std AR grips due the wide assortment of aftermarket grips. I think if they can keep the price in the neighborhoof of $1500 they will have a big hit on thier hands.

Well, the first time I saw a vietnam era M16, when I was a kid, I thought it looked like something from Star Trek, it had LINES, like a Corvette of firearms.
This, this is the 1970's International Harvester 2 wheel drive pick up truck with a 6 foot bed, with a homemade plywood truck cap on it. I'm sure it gets the job done, but its FUGLY. Thats not saying that once its had a chance to impress me, that I wouldnt buy one, Im just saying that there was no thought given to making it look good. |
AK guys think that peep sights and a collapsible stock amounts to bells and whistles. Never mind the flashlights, optics and flip sights that many people find useful. |
How does the 3.5 KG weight compare to the Current M16 variant?
Just curious it looks HUGE compared to whats out there now... I like it though... Not sure I'd buy one. but I'd definately drool if I saw one IRL FWIW... |
I believe 3.5 Kg equals 7.7161792 pound. An M4 can weigh that much after you add a rail and SOPMOD stock, but in all reality, I think the SCAR-L will probably weigh about a pound more than a similar M4. Maybe a pound and a half. I need to do some more reading on these things. Make mine a SCAR-H, if you please. |
Understand that many of the pics that were just posted are of the 7.62x51 version. And nearly all are short barrel so the proportions don't look the same as most AR's. |
The SCAR-L is 7.24 lbs and SCAR-H is 7.74 lbs without mags. |
What barrel length are we talking? Cause a 7.7 pound 7.62N sounds good unless it has a 12 inch pipe. |
13.78 inches (350mm) for the SCAR-L and SCAR-H is 19.7 inches (500mm) |

Well she may not be a beauty queen, but at least from what I have heard it is a very good design. the M4A1s that SF carries all have the heavy barrel contour under the handguards so the M4A1 is heavier than the M4 (I don't know exact weights mind you).
As for appearance I doubt the people it will be used against will care how pretty it is because hopefully the first time they see it up close it will be from the muzzle end and that will be for a quick preview of things to come. I am sure the deigners said "Well, I hope the guys on AR15.com approve of it's appearance because it is the most important feature of a rifle"-the Gee-whiz factor (not meant as a flame b.t.w. just an observation). I guess we shall see soon enough for ourselves. I know civilians want something that looks good and shoots good and the military doesn't always see things that way. I remember the disdain for the AR-15 a few years back and now look at it works like "sexy" are being used-it is still a pig in my eyes, just having a little "Gucci" added-but a pig wearing makeup none the less. the AK has always been an ugly wart-hog. But people like them because they work. So I guess we shall see soon enough. |
Ive got a lead on a Jennings... |
I think they need to fix this. I don't care in the future if they develope ray guns you still have a need for a bayonet. |
Nope! Not for a while longer! |
Something tells me it'll be a cold day in hell before any of us civilians ever owns one.
Good! One less jam-o-matic for me, one more reliable weapon for me! |
FN ain't HK... |
hmm,...made by the same guys that made the m-249, and m-240b?,...............................
ugly for sure,............ but made by FN means it is as reliable as gravity,.......... there m-249's and m-240b's where my saving grace in iraq. do i want one?................ shit!,.. ill take one of each with all three barrels! now i know i cant ever afford that so if i had to pick one and only one,...... it would be 5.56/ 7.62 set up for CQB,... ar owners are just to proud to admit that there is something better than there presious black rifle out there,..ak lovers should like it once they warm one up,.. so how long do i have to save up for one? |
Well, at least the gas block houses a piston instead of a gas tube for a direct gas system as used in the AR. The people that I have talked to that have actually fired it have told me that it beats the little black rifle hands down. I think the AR crowd is worried because their rifles may be rendered somewhat obosolete (Don't worry the AR is and will be alive and well for some time-look at how long the M14/M1A crowd has hung on not to mention all the Gucci for them.). At least initially the SCAR is not meant for the big army, but the big army is looking to replace the M16 series and hopefully will in the near future and I'l bet they are waiting to see where the SCAR goes because it meets all the requirements that they are looking for. And before someone pulls out of their butt the "What about the H&K 416?" question-The Army cannot just put an H&K upper reciever on the M4 as it sits now. Not because it doesn't work, but for for legal issues and a few other things so they would have to buy whole new weapons to circumvent the Colt M4 issue and an H&K complete 416 is not a cheap replacement because just one upper reciever costs over 3 times what a complete Colt M-4A1costs these days (If I remember it correcrly). I like the H&K system but $1800.00 (Military price) is a bit steep for an upper reciever. It might cost more than the SCAR and from what I have heard the SCAR is better-but like all things we shall see, huh?
Well no..Commando Joe say's we need one so we all have to have one... When I get mine I'm gonna put stuff all over!! $1500 dollar ACOG, $300 dollar flashlight, $65 dollar vert grip, and oh the magpul ranger discoberries it will have..I'll be the envy of all the other paper shooter's at the range..Or maybe I'll start hanging out at Blackwater for some intense training and gun matches.. |
Upper or lower? Small arms review had pics of the upper... or you're probably wondering the same thing I'm wondering |
I have been wondering the same thing , at least I think I am. Will it work with a rdias. |
I'd go for one now. Better than the XM-8 Fetish/Rage/Hate whatever in the hell that was all about... I can see this happening... |
Words marked - I guarantee you that I will never want a SCAR but I'd love to have a SIG 551 ... |
+1 FN's already making civilian versions of the FN2000, P90, etc... It may be a little while, but I'm pretty sure we'll see a civvy SCAR, and I know I'll be in line. |
