Is this the S&@ semi-auto .45 ACP from about 10+ years ago?  IF so, a bro of mine with Denver PD still carries one, he out shoots the heck out of the younger cops with their Glocks, etc.

I still carry my 4566. It has been 100% from day one! I love 3rd gen S&W, all 9 of mine have been 100% from day 1 with out a single malfunction. Can't say that about my Glocks. Looka the the 3rd row:

The S & W model 4566 is a double action semi automatic pistol in .45 ACP. It is of good finish and quality, and is of stainless steel manufacture. The model 4586 is the same gun, but in a double action only version. Both of these guns are identical to the model 4506, exept for the barrel and slide, which are both a inch shorter. These guns are exellently balanced combat handguns, and their slightly smaller statue makes them easyer to carry around all day than their bigger brother.
These guns have a eight round magazine.(pictured is the 4586)

Weight: 2.4 lbs (1.09 kg)
Caliber: .45 ACP
Barrel: 4.25 inch (10.63 cm)
Action: Double Action / Double Action Only
Range: 165 ft (50 m)
Payload: 8 + 1
Cost: $ 790
Made in: USA

The 3rd Generation S&W's are good pistols. I've had various models in a number of different calibers over the years and they have all been very tough, robust and reliable weapons.

FWIW, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife issues the 4566 (or a very similar model), or at least they did as of a few years ago.

They're decent guns, I own an older 4506 that I bought used and it's been problem-free.

But when it comes to CCW, if I'm going to carry a steel full-sized .45, make mine a 1911 every time.

Your Makarov is naked.

So are my Smith revolvers. They were waiting for new grips.

I've got a M4506 but I would never consider it a good gun to carry.  Its simply too
big and heavy for anything like that.  I do think its great as a nightstand gun since
its reliable (they can feed empty cases so you know they feed live ammo extremely
well) and, if taken by the police after a home shooting, there is no great loss if its
damaged or never returned since Smith autos aren't worth much. You can buy them for a song since they aren't very popular.

You may want to read up on the current price of S&W autos. Prices are going up as they are getting harder to find.
