My SA came with one 8 rounder that has worked flawlessly. I several 7 rounders I picked up over the years that haven't worked so well. What's in your mag well?

CMC powermag, but I'll probably switch to Wilson 47-D, the CMC's had to be broken in as the springs were too strong and the last round would litterally be shoved out of the mag instead of being stripped and it would lock the slide back with a live round just sitting on top of the mag. It took around 200 rounds being run though them on top of sitting with a rod compressing the spring.

Wilson 47D.
Didn't have good luck with McCormicks, no problems out of the Wilson's. YMMV |
I picked up the cheap Chip McCormick 8 rounders from Midway. I think they where $10 each for range mags, Never had a problem with them... They work great in my SA with my mild lead reloads....

I have had 5 or 6 CMC mags that work but also have had a few that did not. My dealer will take back the CMC mags that don't work but it is a headache so my last few CMC mags are on the EE as we type. More 47D will be orderd soon. My Kimber, Colt and Brown came with 7rd mags that work but are not used for much because I like the extra round.

Chip McCormick 8 rd Power Mags are working in my Springfield. I need to pick up more.
I was using Wilson 47D's until I realized that they did not allow the slide lock to fully engage on my Springfield GI .45 or my DW Bobtail.
I began using the ACT Mags and have a slew of $8.99 Target Sport mags that work great as well... |

Can you remove the basepads on the Wilsons? I like a flush fit better if possible.
OEM, McCormicks, Novaks, and Mec-Gar. No problem with any so far.
You can get the low profile base pads, can be put on the 47D as well, come standard on the 47DC (low profile) 8 round mags. It'll still protrude a bit though. |

Wilson 47D
Colt 8 rounders (purchased for my Series 80 before I discovered Wilson) |
Long ago I got a bunch of black-finished stainless Chip McCormick Shooting Star 8-round magazines for my Colt M1991A1. They've worked great in it. However, it's a highly reliable pistol that tolerates just about anything I do to it -- and rattles when I shake it. You old timers know the kind of gun I'm talking about. he

Wilson 7rd and 8rd mags wouldnt work in my Champion (at least they wouldnt before the slide stop and recoil spring change)... Last round lockback was just a dream at that point... I did like the looks of Wilsons a little better than others, especially since you didnt have to position the follower "just right" to put in the first round.
CMC Power 8rd mags work flawlessly, although I have observed that the springs were a little TOO powerful, so I left them fully loaded with 8rds for a week and they're absolutely marvelous in function. So this is what i've chosen to use unless i find something better. -- OJM FireFighter/Paramedic |

I have & use Wilson's but lately I prefer the Novak/ACT 8 rounders.

I like Wilson's same as everybody. But I have a bunch of SA factory 7rd mags (MetalForm) just sitting there so I decided to convert them to 8rd and put basepads on them. I did this to three mags using Wilson's conversion kit and MetalForm basepads. Here's the details on how I did it:
forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?p=1204535#post1204535 So far they work great and I like the basepad (makes it easier to seat the mag). Only more time will tell if they prove to be as reliable as the Wilson's. |

Chip McCormick PowerMags.
Of two new Kimber magazines (the KimProTac or whatever they're named) one has issues feeding the last round out of the magazine before the slide closes, jamming the round. The Kimber mag springs are very soft. |
Just to be different I have 7 Mitchell Arms 8 rounders that have performed flawlessly in my 1911.
Various makers but I have been replacing springs and followers with Wilson parts.
Wilson 47D...I use the old colt 7 rounders at the range for messing around occassionaly, but I almost exclusively use my Wilsons for everything.
I am running ACT mags (harder feeding on the last round, but much easier to maintain) and Wilsons.
So far I have about 700 rounds through my TRS with CMC Power Mags and they have been perfect. The Les Baer mags that it came with were JUNK.
I have about 300 rounds through my TRS with my one Wilson 47D, and it has worked perfectly too. At this point, I'll be going with more CMC Power Mags just because I can get them for around $12 plus shipping. |
General Rule of thumb, Go the extra mile and buy a little bit over, but buy it once, and buy it right.
Wilson 47D. |

700rds+ @ Blackwater Class
650rds+ @ EAG Tactical Class I'll report back on this weekend's class. Supposed to 400rds+. I only own three Wilson's, so the rest are all Power Mags. I've been satisfied so far with both. <<Shrugs>> |

I have a Colt Double Eagle I, and I use Colt 8 round mags, but I think the mags are made by Metalform with a 8 round follower from Chip McCormick. To get that prancing horse it is expensive, I paid $20each 10 years ago.
