I felt the greens I used when I did this rifle didn't have enough contrast so I added some black and brown.

The ninos picked their favorites from the Noveske Swamp Rat project and I did my best. My oldest is getting into spray paint and wants to work his way up to his ARs. Before his cheaper airsoft guns, he was doing Nerf stuff. Soon he’s going to do his AR.

Thanks.  I used Rustoleum camo ultra flat.  A dark FDE, dark green, dark brown.  The cans don’t have the color label on them that I can see.  I did a diagonal pass, didn’t mask between color borders so the colors would blend.  Then I went over it through a mesh laundry bag with a contrasting color.  I masked the forward assist, trigger, turrets and scope numbers. The original upload was a little bit white washed so I updated it.

Thank You for the comment. I'm a little surprised because I  painted this rifle from start to finish in under an hour.

It looks awesome.  Did you do base coat FDE and then green and brown on top?  I lost too much of my darker colors so I might try to lay some darker patches over it.  My mesh was too fine and it ended up more monotone than I wanted.

Yes, the green 3M masking tape works better than the blue.

Yes, I always start with the lighter color (FDE) then lay a laundry bag over it and spray the ODG and Dark Brown through stencils that I cut in heavy paper.  My two tips are to make sure the rifle is really clean. I use brake cleaner. And to shake the cans a lot before and during the painting.

Sling took the paint good but it does flake off on the wear/adjustment points. It's just a Magpul MS1 that I wanted to see how it worked.

Just do it! Extra points for getting in a chair for the perfect pic!!!

You don't have to however the prep will make it last longer. Hit everything with steel wool or a greenie pad, blow off then wipe with acetone or alcohol and let that dry then paint. Or just spray it. I personally prefer the look of paint wearing off.

3 coats of khaki. Basically the whole can. Then a few brown stripes. Followed up with light-medium army green dusting.

I'm very happy how it turned out for my first time. I handled it a little early. But I think that's acceptable.

Wife is going to kill me for painting the can though. lol.

Emailed pics as they're unpainted and don't belong here haha.  That being said no RIS IIs were harmed in this creation.  It came from the factory that length.

I added a little more green without the laundry bag and I like it much more.

Awesome, love it. Legit good camouflage too.

I just used citristrip to pull off the dark parkerizing grey Alumahyde from this one. Never did like the color and wanted to start from scratch. I went after the G rail with a dremel to fit this barrel and suppressor lol. Turned out decent. Have about 1/8" clearance, can't get much tighter.

I appreciate painted ARs.  I have only painted 1 upper with 2 colors for coyotes.  This KTM300XCW is amazingly effective for that terrain. Impressed.

Added some black to the inside of the diamonds on the SPR.

I don't know if it increased or decreased the aesthetic value, but it hides a little bit better now.
