Some posters said the original forward assist button was too small, and that this larger one looks to be more functional (i.e., you can slap it hard with the palm of your hand without concern as to is sustaining the impact).

All I know is, Pete has more experience with the AUG platform than practically anyone in the CONUS, so if he put it there, there's probably a good reason for it.

I agree. Think of how easy it will be to use with gloved hands now.
