May not be a bad idea to tack this thread for future so it doesn't get archived

There were no wipes in the AAC M9-SD.
The wipes in the KAC XM9 were 1/8" thick x 1" diameter, 70 Durometer Urethane. 8 were used per stack, grouped as 3,3, and 2. Very easily made with a sheet of the material, and a gasket punch. SilentMike |

Awesome information. Needs to be stickied somewhere or at least set to not archive.

The punches are WAY cheaper on Amazon. This will take you to a page where you can select from a variety of sizes too.
The one linked above is will be over $80 with shipping.

Since this is a wipe thread..
I was reading here a while back that wipes were a "only have one on ya" kinda deal, as they were considered a baffle. Did I misread that? |

Agree - very useful thread.
Pro: wipes reduce sound signature over non - wipe cans Cons: accuracy may be adversely affected - greater blow-back in semi auto firearms - very limited service life. My general impression is: wipe cans are best left to pistol calipers: |
|
|
Why the difference in hardness (durometer). Considering they all perform the same function should not the hardness be the same for the best benefit?

McMaster Carr sells 5-10 count packs of rubber washers that come in sizes that are almost perfect for a few of the listed silencers above.
Washer "No Mr. ATF man, these aren't extra wipes. Just a pack of commercially available rubber washers that don't quite fit perfectly in my Ghost." |

The factory spec on the Gemtech Aurora wipe (both original and Aurora-II) is 1" OD x 1/8" thick, not 15/16" OD. I just double-checked my memory with the factory prints.

Pro tip: Use the end grain of a wood block as your anvil rather than the side grain for a cleaner punch. A block of soft plastic like HDPE or similar works well too.
Next time we are running a batch of wipes I will try to remember to post a pic of our wipe punching machine. Full semi-auto production of freedom disks! |

Sandwich the cutter, the material, and a 1" Thk piece of 6x6, all in the vise and tighten down. Out pops a rubber washer My lil guy loves making them. Actually, he loves making the hole in the rubber sheet and could care less about the final product. For now |

Does anyone use a punch to punch out the center hole for their wipes? Or just let the bullet make the initial hole?

I'm a little confused about which Amazon punch I need for the Ghost. Can someone help?
Also this thread isn't going to turn into Wish.com 2.0, right? |

Last weekend I tried to cut replacement wipes for my AWC HP-9 can. There are (4 ) 1"D 1/4" thick wipes in this can. The can has never been fired but original wipes were in really poor condition, they were dried out and fragile so I tossed them.
Trying to hammer through the 1/4" material was surprisingly difficult. After that I tried to cut an "X" in the center of one wipe with a razor and it did not turn out well. After that I got out a really sharp 1/4" chisel and tried to center it but two wipes in a row split almost in half and had to be tossed. It took some time but I finally managed to get four cut but the "X's" were not perfectly centered. Maybe working with 1/8" material and doing eight wipes is the answer. Now something KAC did a while back on one of their limited run 45 cans got me thinking. This particular can incorporated one or two wipes in a special end cap and each wipe had a small hole in the center of it. My question is will a hole diminish the effectiveness of the wipes in a can that was not originally designed to have such holes in the wipes or simply "X's"? Here is pic of the KAC wipes from their limited run 45 can. Attached File This whole process makes me wonder if someone could make a special punch that incorporates an "X" into the center so you could accomplish both tasks at the same time, or would a stand alone punch that only cuts the "X" be easier to make. |

If a guy was really into it and needed a size that was not common to the plumbing washer market something like this would come in handy. They sure would be some concentric circles.
I'd imagine that'd be something a fella could do if he was so inclined.

Not up-to-date on the law regarding these wipers. Is it illegal to sale these or have a bunch laying around?
If legal you can get laser cut custom sizes fairly cheap. And just about any durometer and compound. |
