I need to engrave another lower with my info. Would it be possible to engrave inside the mag well? It's another POF lower and they have a nice flat edge inside the mag well that is just asking to be engraved on.

Just wrote the info in the location with a pencil and inserted mag. It can be seen with no problem. I'll post pics when I get it finished.

EDITED TO ADD PICS

I used a very fine diamond bit for a slow speed dremel type tool that I got a Harbor Freight.

I guess that works

You > Stupid NFA engraving regs.

Sounds like a good reason for me to get a dremel, lol.

Thanks for all the positive replies.

Definitely  be careful with the dremel, I used a hand held rotary tool that is much lower speed than my dremel. Of course I wrote it out in pencil first as a guide. It wasn't that hard, but it certainly doesn't look perfect. However, in that location I'm sure no one will ever notice unless I point it out.

great job.  That is a really clever place to put the engraving.  I am going to try that out on my next SBR build.

It's nice to see people thinking outside of the box.  That's a good idea.  It makes me want to SBR my POF lower - if it wasn't the host for my RDIAS.

As a side note, how do you "know" when you reach .003"? When I ran around town asking for people to engrave my lower they were adament that they couldn't cut it that deep.  I ended up sending it to hdps... when it came back, it looked great but the only reason I knew it was deep enough was that it was a reputable company.

.003 isn't all that deep. if you have penetrated through the anodizing, you are already over half the depth needed, if not more-so.

I know nothing about engraving so when I was checking around with local engraving shops I was told that they could not reach the .003 depth with their laser engravers. I assumed this was the way to go after reading about laser engraving here. One of the shop owners told me only a YAG laser could reach .003 & that YAG lasers are way too expensive for most small shops to buy. I later learned that the most of the businesses that can engrave for this particular purpose use rotary engravers. If you want it lasered to the required depth you need to find a place that uses a YAG laser.
