I'm interested in helping out with the Katrina situation. What I have in mind is to provide help to 1 family, who is willing to relocate to my area, (in SW WA). So far, I'm thinking that I will provide up to two temporary jobs for said family, temporary housing, possibly a starter vehicle, and some other misc items as needed, (food, clothing, etc).

Does anyone have an idea of how I can go about finding a family to help? Craigslist was suggested to me last night, but I'm not familiar with it, and I wasn't able to navigate it well enough to do any good this morning..... and I may need a little help.

Any thoughts? (I would imagine this info is already floating around on ARFCOM somewhere, but I'm at work, and a shortcut would help quite a bit if available)

I am most able to help someone if they are willing to relocate to here. I can create a job or two, and I have the means to provide temp housing.

I made the mistake of leaving the TV on as I fell asleep last night, and woke to the blaring local news this morning..... Since when did a guy need a tin foil hat for KIRO news? Nearly every sentence was advice on how trying to help any of the Katrina victims on a personal level was a mistake, and how the Red Cross is advising that only the federal programs are a worthy method of helping......? Didn't the RC have a little trouble in their accounting department during the 9-11 relief efforts? I think I recall so. (I'll save you the rest of that rant, for now)

There are several mixed feelings around on how/who/if to help. I don't intend to further challenge anyone elses belief on that.... to each his own. But I saw the mayor of NO speak to the cameras this morning, and it sure looks like the leadership down there could use a little ..... er, leadership. Meanwhile, I'll help someone if I can.

Update; I haven't recieved any replies to my Craigslist ad yet...... So I'll try putting it in a different catagory, and see if that helps. Any better ideas would still be appreciated.
