On Thursday, April 18, 21-year-old Rodney Odell Brown was arrested. He faces attempted murder, weapons, robbery and conspiracy charges.

According to an incident report provided by the West Columbia Police Department, the shooting happened in November 2023 outside the Popeyes in Augusta Road.

The report stated when police responded to the shooting they found a man and woman with gunshot wounds. Police said the man was shot in the left shoulder and leg and the woman in her right buttocks.

The report goes on to say police spoke with the manager of the store who said an altercation happened outside involving the victims and Brown. The manager said that sometime during the incident they heard multiple shots and both victims took off running toward Carolina Pottery.

The manager stated Brown followed the victims in a black sedan and fired over 15 shots. The incident report also stated police later found out an employee at Popeyes jumped in the car with Brown.

Police said the shooting is still under investigation.

I thought this was going to be about moving the House of Raeford chicken processing plant from West Columbia to Aiken.

Looks like we dodged that bullet (hopefully permanently).

It probably will with West Columbia's "WeCo" branding effort as an entertainment alternative that isn't Columbia, Five Points, The Vista, or the Williams Brice failed microbrewery wasteland.

Serious business, chicken is.  It's also too stinky for the swanky, up-and-coming WeCo.
