I know we have a member or two who was in that part of the world during those times. I find the sheer variety of weapons interesting.

Spent a little over a month down there for Hurricane Mitch relief, and Pres. Clinton visit in 1999. And then some time in El Salvador while waiting on Airlift back to the states...C-130 crew dropped us off and we met up with our other team and spent about a week waiting around until we could all get back home.

That's probably the first time I've ever seen the winter trigger guard used on an M16.

Meh, no threat there, I only saw three ARs in the whole bunch. According to arf, AKs are apparently incapable of sufficient accuracy to kill people.

Had a co-worker who spent some time down there during that era.  Pretty much all he said about it was that it was disgusting and sad what humans would do to each other; something about killing people in combat was one thing but that they liked to torture each other.  MS13 and groups like that pretty much bear that statement out.

Probably the best one ever made.  AR-18 with the 40 round mag. It was piston before piston was cool.

I also see plenty of G3's, Fal's, M-14's a Mini 14 (I bet that guy got killed) VZ52, Galils.

I saw pics of the home defense forces with German K98's in other photos.

I did too.  I had a Howa and 3 Sterlings.  I also had the inverted reticle 3x scope mount.

I never did find a Costa Mesa. I did but the price was too high at the time, ($995,00)  What a dumbass I was too pass that up.

No one spotted Eden "Commander Zero" Pastora in the pic with the 180?

I think this is a mix of late 70s FSLN pics and mid 1980s Contra pics.

Brother, I believe you, I had immigrant friends in the 80s. And today, a shipmate born in Vietnam explained few things to me of the stuff he saw as a kid.

Didn't like the guy. He was an asshole and killed many people. Nothing compares to what the Sandinista did/are doing to the country.

I was born in Managua. My mom spends about 2/3 of the year near Masaya. She is desperately trying to sell her house and move here before the Sandinistas steal her house again.

Thanks for the cool pics OP.
