I completely agree with him on this. I work with a bunch of them and you would be surprised at how little real world knowledge a fresh out of college engineer has. It is downright scary when you have to explain what and engine is or the fact that you cannot connect to the ecm on a vehicle without first having the key in the on position. M favorite was that the engineer was complaining that the AC in the truck didn't work. I did, you just have to be running the engine first smart one.

Vice president of a company that does $450 million a year. We have a permanent bill board next to the interstate hiring welders. We start "tackers" at $20/hour and go up to $55/hour for those than can pass a drug test, weld in all posisitions and a variety of processes, willing to work with a variety of high nickel alloys (or inconel/monel etc..we get NO that's hard to weld a lot)and pass their test/x-ray/etc... on a regular basis. 1 out of 4 applicants will flunk a drug test and then go from there. No travel etc...
It's "hot" in the shop even tho they get off every Friday, we pay 100% of insurance and give profit sharing that will average about 8% of their gross. It's hard to find people who will work, but it's "hot" in the shop. Gee I dunno, the other VP was a welder and then moved to a welding inspector and now VP. But it's HOT in the shop. |

No travel etc... It's "hot" in the shop even tho they get off every Friday, we pay 100% of insurance and give profit sharing that will average about 8% of their gross. It's hard to find people who will work, but it's "hot" in the shop. Gee I dunno, the other VP was a welder and then moved to a welding inspector and now VP. But it's HOT in the shop. Where is this? Phoenix? No, but I know who you are talking about. Well known in the industry, as a shit place to work and a lot of their office people flee all across the rest of the country. |
