TRUMP IS THE BEST 2ND AMENDMENT PRESIDENT OF ALL TIME...

Might be a dupe. Dunno, Don't care. Couldn't figure out what sort of search term, when combined with ARFcom's shitty search engine and ARFcommers' sometimes whimsical thread naming conventions, might net a positive hit. So, here. bite me.

title edit

I mean, he was in full agreement with the NRA on bump stocks. And we all know the NRA has our best interest at heart. Right?

Spoiler alert: Fuck WLP and the entire board except for a few.

Might want to edit the title to prevent a lock.

The only reason to bash Trump at this point is if you are ridin’ with Biden.

Yeah, DJT is definitely just the lesser of 2 evils when it comes to the 2A.

He did absolutely nothing to unfuck the AFT, when he had absolute power to do so.

In fact he really didn't do a great job of removing all the troglodyte liberals from the executive branch, of which he was king. Granted, he was going against the current, but he had the ability to fire many that he didn't. Bumps stocks was just one facet of his lackluster defense of the 2A.

But what do you expect from a New York City Republican.

Then again, both Reagan and Bush signed heinous gun control laws.

I'll vote Trump again, FJB isn't an option, but I am not going to pretend he is a 2A champion, because he is not.

Trump never was a gun guy. Probably the farthest from one without hating guns. But I think the Bumpstock thing was an emotional decision on Trumps part because he actually has empathy for human life.

For sure he had evil gun control demons whispering in his ear so it wasn't hard to push him that way.

The thing about the bumpstock ban that Mark pointed out was something I'd never heard before, but that makes a lot of sense.

Doing the ban by executive order in the way he did it kept the matter out of the hands of Congress, who were under tremendous pressure to "Do Something about those ebil machine guns! For the chilluns!"

Given that the ban has been overturned based primarily on administrative overreach and ATF's changing definitions without Congress' explicit authorization, would we really have been better off if we'd given a weak kneed Congress the path to change the definition of 'machine gun' in a way that would have granted that explicit authorization?

Not saying it was 4D chess to short circuit Congregational action, don't get me wrong. But, if it had been, I could see it playing out just the way it did.

This is an interesting topic.

Before the 1930’s, limits (if any) on the 2A were not even a topic of discussion.   Given that my question would be this:

Among Presidents in office from 1930 or later, who would be considered the most “2A friendly” of that list?

Hmm... I'd go with JFK, Reagan, and Trump, if for different reasons.

Trump has always been a New York Dem, although probably more center leaning because he is a business owner.  Adjust you expectations accordingly.  Better than the potato by degree not type.

True, but now is not the time. The only thing of importance now is winning.
