Is it acceptable to be 50 years old and over and not on a 1911 chamber in 45 ACP?

It wouldn't be acceptable if you were 21.

I'm over 60 and don't own one.  With age comes wisdom.

If the 1911 isn't your thing, that's fine.  I've actually picked-up a few in 9mm recently.

I have one in 9mm and one in 10mm.  No .45 ACP.  I never considered that it wouldn't be acceptable.

I'm 66.  Bought my SA 1911 (first 1911) in 2013.

My math says I missed the deadline of 50 YO.

Can I be grandfathered?

It's your money.  Shoot what you like.

I like mine.  I really like their triggers, and truthfully mine isn't that good as far as 1911's go.  The Wilson I tried a few years ago, OTOH...  Then again, mine runs.

I sold mine. They are nice to shoot at the range, but I'm not carrying one. I know a lot of guys here do, but I'd rather have a Glock. I'll probably buy a 2011 one of these days. Hell, I'll probably buy another 1911. But they just don't fill any real need for me.

I own a few, mix of USGI and others. I enjoy shooting them and would feel well armed if I carried one. But a modern high capacity 9mm is a better choice for home or CCW.

I'm over 50 and have 1911's in multiple calibers and formats. I wouldn't force a 1911 on anyone, but they're missing out on the best trigger pull available for a semiauto. They're also thin for a large caliber handgun and easy to conceal. Get an alloy frame if the steel frame version feels too heavy.

I'm over 60 and have one. If my budget allowed I would change that and get some more variety in my life but oh well.

I was raised on 1911s in .45 ACP. Still my favorite self-loading centerfire pistol. I don't dislike Glocks or Sigs or HKs, and I recognize their engineering advancements and understand why they're probably a better choice for big groups of semi-trained people. But at the end of the day I just know the 1911 better. I know how to build them, I know how to diagnose and fix issues with them, and I just plain shoot them better than the others. They feel better in my hand. They're more enjoyable to shoot. And mine are set up to be as reliable as I'll ever need a pistol to be if things get warm. I guess there are a lot of parallels between why I still carry a 1911 and why I still shoot trap with a Winchester 97.

My son's goal was to have a 1911 when he was 11. He succeeded.

59 and don't have one.

not because I hate on em. they are fine if reliable.
but I got a g19 and preferred glocks ever since.
if the glock never existed or I got one as a first gun.
I could see myself perfecting it for myself and using
it until the day I died. the trigger is surgical and it feels
great in my hand. It just didn't happen to me.

always thought highly of col Cooper. team Weaver stance forever

At the ripe old age of 70 I have come to the point where I don't spend much time and effort trying to work out what other people are thinking .

However , a 1911 is generally fun , interesting lots of fun to mess with and I believe that are not on board most likely are missing.

Yeah , I know they are made in 4 or so common calibers and another 6 or so oddball calibers but to my way of thinking you should buy your first 2 or 3 1911s in 45acp and then think if you need to branch out .

It says it right in the name "45 AUTOMATIC COLT PISTOL"

41 here and own two.

One runs (10mm) and one doesn't (45acp).

Both are range toys.

Obligatory shot of working 10mm fireball...

Over 50 and have 3 of them.

Had 4 but sold the WWII Remington Rand

Don't carry any of them I use a G30 for carry or a 29.

Important part is to own a gun, practice, & carry it.
