Whats the proper way to attain one? I know they are absolute dog shit to actually shoot.. But its more as a cool factor gun... Im sure the govt needs money for one of these. Do these fall under AOW's? And where can I get one?

Find one at a pawn shop, put in a form 1, then bust out ye olde timey hacksaw. The end.

A long time ago I paid the $200 and made an SBS in homage to Mad Max.  I've shot maybe 30 shells through it over the last 10 years.

But it's fucking cool.

And that's all that matters.

Mine isn't SBS'd, but it is fucking fun to shoot.  Got it at a local shop that takes in guns on consignment.  $325-ish, IIRC.

Fixed chokes, cylinder and modified, so (per Stoeger) you can only shoot slugs out of the cylinder barrel...

CZ and Cimarron make outside hammer coach guns. Stoeger makes internal hammer ones. I think most of these have 20" barrels so no NFA stamp needed. I have a Turkish made one with 20" barrels and it is pretty handy. Go to a Cowboy Action match, not everyone there is shooting 1897's.

Stoegers are solid.  Baikals are built like a tank.  Buy used from a Cowboy Action shooter if you want one already slicked up.

That's a sawed off double barrel, but still his link is the easiest and possibly cheapest way of going for that (unless you want to look through pawn shops for a cheaply priced beater double barrel).

I think you might want to F1 SBS it.

I have a CZ Coach Gun with the external hammers. Completely pointless, no practical need at all, and absolutely a shit eating grin on my face every time I shoot it!  I love breaking clays with it. You just have to get on them quick and break them close.

Just a note if you’re not familiar with doubles. Without an action, you start off 3-4 inches shorter than a pump or semi auto with the same length barrel.
With that said, there’s really no half way between mad max and a standard coach gun. My buddy cut an old double to 18 1/2 and had it threaded for tubes. It’s a very handy gun with the ability to switch tubes to meet the situation.

@Princeton

You should be sure to add some handguns to that list. My cowboy collection includes a Stoeger 12 ga Coach Gun, Rossi 92 .357 carbine, Bond Arms .357 derringer, Taylors 1873 Cattleman in .357, and an EAA Bounty Hunter w/ both .22 LR and .22 WMR cylinders.

@SiVisPacem

I have a single action but it’s in .45LC. In a perfect world I’d swap it for a .357 so the revolver & lever action match but I’m officially on a strict buying freeze.

I really like your matching collection.

Had a buddy that bought a double barrel, and Nfa'd it. I had opportunity to shoot it. Pretty cool. Not overly useful, but really cool. He passed about 2 years ago. I wonder if his family had any idea how to handle the legalities.

That's a New England Firearms 12 ga. SBS with a 10.2" barrel, an ATI Shockforce fore end, and polymer stock.

It's a fucking handful to shoot, that's for certain. You definitely feel the recoil, which is why I only use reduced recoil ammo in it. Usually, I stick to the short shells from Aquila or Federal for it and the 12 ga AOW on the floor.

I have an old Norinco.  Lots of fun. Made for the chinamen working on the rail lines back in the old west.  If you watch Blazing Saddles you might get a glimpse of one in the background.  They had to protect themselves from the Irishmen.

There is a reason why they were used in the stagecoach days, intimidation.

They are effective

I bought my last exposed hammer American Shotgun Co. shotgun for $100 bucks from the local funstore and it sends an immediate message when you walk out any door with it. I do not know why they are not more popular unless it is not a magnum tool. I use
2 1/2 and with the long 30 inch barrels nothing is safe at range in front of the barrels and maybe behind.

I just cannot cut down the barrels because it's in fantastic condition for a century plus intimidator. I will get me another that will donate its good barrels to adjust length for use.
