They claim its 100% made in the USA. I wonder who makes it?

I think most of Taylor's stuff is made by Uberti.
Maybe they are "assembling" them in the USA (I could be wrong, I have no idea). |

I've got a T & C smoke wagon made by Uberti and tuned up by their gunsmith. It's a sweet gun. AFAIK, Taylor's never made anything, it's all imported. It's going go be interesting to see who's doing what. Not that it really matters, all the stuff they sell seems to be pretty good. Now if they came out with a 10mm I'd be all over it. |

Last time I saw a semi auto caliber lever action, the conversion price was more than that rifle is selling for, and you still needed to buy the base rifle.
Plus I don't have a 73 action yet. Or a threaded lever. This is very bad news for my budget. |

Good on Taylor for doing an American made 1873, I think I would have preferred .357 to 9mm though. |

I would think the purpose of chambering in 9mm would be to maximize ammo capacity. So why limit it to 10?

Also wanting to know who makes this.
Also want to know why only 10 rounds? “Tuned”? Does that mean short stroked? Looks like street price should be less than 2100 as their other guns are about 150-300 cheaper than their website MSRP. Fingers crossed. I want a non-threaded 20” octagonal barreled one with a crescent or flat STEEL buttplate. I’d pay $2k for that for sure if made in the USA. This would be the first 1873, arguably the most American rifle ever, made in the USA in about 100 years. There’s a reason they’re not showing the fugly rubber buttplate in their promos. Had to search everywhere to find what the buttplate looked like. |

My best guess is there is a "magazine reduction rod" installed from the factory. A Chiappa 1892 I bought used years ago had one. It's easy enough to remove. Hopefully that's all it is.

The website updated to include a picture with the rubber buttpad.
And the more I think about it, 10 rounds for an 18" barrel (that looks closer to 16") sounds about right for 9mm; my 1894 holds fewer .38 Special with a 16". |

The tube looks like it belongs under a 16" barrel. They had to leave clearance for a can with the threaded barrel. I emailed them over the weekend and just received the response. "There is no limiter rod. 10 rounds are what fit comfortably in the magazine tube and also California has a 10 round limit so it is CA compliant". Not gonna argue with them about CA law but there it is. |
