We’ve both shot ourselves with 7.65mm PPK pistols …….

Was putting some grips on a ppk that had sat in parts for about a year . There was no mag in it but I did not check the chamber . Ended up shooting myself in the hand de cocking  the gun without using the decocker ……. Luckily it was a through and through and just fractured one bone. I just got a little complacent and lax on my safety . Valuable lesson on always clearing a gun before working on it. At least I had my trauma kit handy and was able to patch myself up before getting a ride to have it checked out. Valuable lesson , not to be forgotten.

By decocking without using the decocker, you mean you pulled the trigger?

I hope you heal up.

Bevis style?

OP, the little lever on the left helps prevent that kind of thing.

(When we do a NG, we use at least 9mm)

No, it looks like he pulled the trigger and had it pointed at his hand instead of a safe direction.

Not that I’m necessarily proud of it, but I shook hands with someone who shook his hand. Weird

Exactly. You almost have to paint the whole wall to get the paint to match. Then if it goes through the house? Same thing with vinyl.

Worked with a guy a long time ago that shot himself through the calf, breaking the fibula, exiting then going through the foot into the floor underneath.  This was a PPK in .380.  He was practicing drawing the pistol when it went off.  He said that scenes on TV where people were shot and kept fighting on were bullshit, lol.  He said he would pass out from the pain, then come to and pass out again.  I remember he had more than one surgery and was in a cast for months.  I know the fibula was fractured with multiple fractures in the foot.

Good luck with your rehab, hopefully not too painful or permanent damage.

Surgeon said mine won’t require surgery , told me it didn’t hit anything important lol . I was able to put a tourniquet on to stop the bleeding then bandage it up with combat gauss and wrap it up before taking the tourniquet back off. It really isn’t that bad. Smarts pretty good but probably no more than just breaking a hand punching something .

Thanks for being brave enough to post this.  You can do without wagging fingers from know-it-alls right now, but as respectfully and tactfully as I can say, the muzzle control during that decocking operation was obviously horrifically wrong.  And the hope (and your intent) of this post is a reminder to others, that these things can go bang!

Look forward to hearing of your recovery, and godspeed sir!

I can't quite figure out the bullet path.  I see where it went right through your palm, but it also grazed your wrist?  Or was that your leg maybe?

Dumb, but everyone is dumb some of the time. One of my great fears is that I will do something like that in a moment of dumbness. But I figure if I keep in mind that I can have those moments of dumbness that I am less likely to shoot myself (Or far worse yet, someone else) when I do have those dumb moments.

Heal well and thanks for what should be a reminder to everyone to be careful.

AH, OK, that blood line looked like a straight path of a bullet scraping your wrist or something.  I see it now, there's an exit hole, and that blood-line to the right, is just where blood collected up, maybe where a bandage line was or something I'm guessing?

Not trying to kick a man when he’s down, but how did your other hand end up in front of the muzzle?
