1898 Obendorf Mauser 6.5X55.

Fully floating with a crisp non creep trigger set at 2lbs and a perfect $80 scope.

I just discovered it likes old 155 grain cupronickel  bullets, in old berdan primed cases with 42 grains of H4831SC powder.

I have about 1500 cases, and countless bullets. They Danish cases can not be reused as they are all berdan primed. Luckily the primers are non corrosive.

5 shot group at 100 meters in a strong crosswind.  Hard do better.

It's my understanding that one can reload berdan printed cases. I believe RCBS makes a berdan de-priming tool.

That being said, I'm not sure of the supply of berdan primers.

I don't think it's worth the hassle.

I remember reading about depriming berdan cases with water, then removing the anvil from a boxer primer and repriming.  That was about the same time people were making .223 bullets from .22lr casings and lead wire.

Nice.
It's as bad (fun) as fussing with an old favorite car.

Is there a source for those brass and bullets?
I have a wonderful old 6.5 I’d like to load for.

I agree. Lapua or Norma brass and don’t look back.
That would be a sweet rig to take to Africa for small plains game.

Not that I know of. I got them for next to nothing as nobody else wanted them, not surprising really as the don't look good. Luckily they all work as good as new.

They are 70 years old and non corrosive.

That is about as handsome as a gun can get.  To have it shoot as good as it looks is the icing on the cake.

It's a bolt action , not a semi auto bullet hose.

Shoot up the old cases you have (and scrap them) Then bite the bullet and buy a couple of hundred pieces of new brass. Pretty much a lifetime supply .

Never owned a 6.5 but I always thought I would grab one up if I came across a decent shape/price option
