Donald Trump was seen arriving in court on Monday in his criminal trial involving the adult film actor Stormy Daniels and the former Playboy model Karen McDougal. Trump, the first former US president to face a criminal trial, is accused of paying Daniels and McDougal to cover up alleged extramarital liaisons that could have damaged his candidacy in the 2016 election. The trial is scheduled to start this morning, with jury selection in Manhattan supreme court.

Trump judge bars mention of Melania being pregnant during his 'affair' with Playboy model Karen McDougal


The judge in Donald Trump's hush money trial has sensationally allowed prosecutors to introduce evidence of an alleged affair with Playboy model Karen McDougal but not claims that it happened while his wife Melania was pregnant with their son Barron.

Judge Juan Merchan said prosecutors could bring evidence that Trump's campaign coordinated with the National Enquirer to suppress the McDougal allegations before the 2016 election.

But he stopped short of letting attorneys bring up salacious details of the alleged relationship.

Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass told the court: ‘We intend to elicit evidence Karen McDouglas was a former Playboy model who claims to have had a romantic and sexual relations with Mr Trump including while Mr Trump’s wife Melania was pregnant with their child’.



He said that they have ‘no intention of describing sexual acts or locales’ where it happened.

But the ‘fact this occurred while Melania was pregnant and after the birth of his son speaks directly to the extent to which the defendant believes the story could be damaging to his campaign’, Steinglass said.

Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche argued that the ‘only value is to embarrass President Trump’. He said the claims were ‘salacious with no value’

Judge Merchan said that the evidence should be allowed in except for ‘bringing up that the defendant’s wife was pregnant and this went on and even after she gave birth’

‘At this moment the prejudicial value excuses the probative value’, he said.

McDougal claims she had a ten-month affair and was in love with Trump between 2006 and 2007. She was then paid $150,000 to tell her story to the National Enquirer, but the interview was never published.



The ruling kicked off a dramatic start to the historic trial where Merchan refused to recuse himself from the case and wouldn't say if Trump could attend his son Barron's high school graduation.

The former president, 77, is facing 34 felony charges of falsifying business records to cover up a $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels over their alleged affair.

Each count he has strenuously denied carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison, but if found guilty he could face a fine or probation as a first-time offender.

Judge allows transcript of Trump's infamous Access Hollywood tape into evidence

In another blow to Trump, Judge Merchan allowed in the transcript of his infamous Access Hollywood tape where he joked about grabbing women.

The video from 2005 where Trump says 'grab them by the p****' will not be played, but jurors will be read what he said.

Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass said that it was ‘incendiary’ and that it was an ‘admission, or at the very least a description of sexual assault’.

Steinglass said that the ‘reparations for the upcoming Presidential debate were ‘interrupted by the need to do damage control’.

He said that this ‘is more than just comments of a sexual nature’ .

But Merchan denied a request to introduce reports that were published after the Access Hollywood tape came out about three other women accusing Trump.

Merchan said they were ‘very, very prejudicial’ and ‘just gossip’.

But jurors will be able to see videos of Trump denying the claims, the judge ruled.

Can someone summarize what the allegations are here? What crime was committed? I thought any settlements or out-of-court agreements were confidential and by mutual agreement. No MSM site really ever gets into that part of it because they're so TDS'd.

What does the Access Hollywood tape have to do with covering up hush money payments?  

On one hand it looks like the trial is just going to be used to make public all the undisclosed dirt on Trump.  

The only other thing I can see is that that Alvin Bragg is going to argue that the hush money payments and falsification of business records was done to hide felony rapes.  Which would mean those women are going to accuse Trump of rape at some point during the trial, and state Trump agreed to pay them off for in exchange for them to not press charges or go to the press.

The actual criminal accusation is about the falsification of records. Paying the hooker and fucking her while his wife was pregnant isn't even part of the trial except as a backstory as to why the records were falsified.

I think you have to bring up the affair to establish a motive to falsify records. Nobody falsifies records that they had ice cream or helped rescue a puppy so you have to establish a motive.

The payments to the lawyer were noted in records as "legal expenses".  The offense is "falsifying business records", even though its a never enforced law, because the records in question just end up in a filing cabinet some place and have no bearing on any thing.

He’s going to argue that his lawyer Coen paid her off all on his own, and completely unrelated, Trump paid Coen the same amount for “lawyer fees”.   I could be wrong.

If Trump spent campaign funds to cover up the affair, then that would be a violation of federal campaign financing laws and have nothing to do with falsification of business records.

My view, for what its worth: trump for all his billions should have just paid her non disclosure agreement directly with his own money, as it was his disguising those payments and the related false filings that created his legal jeopardy.  Its a tough case for the prosecution with respect to a convicted perjurer as a witness.  Unfortunately for trump the paperwork is pretty cut and dried, hence the indictment.    Even if he were deemed guilty, he isn't going to jail and I suspect his numbers will bump with either an acquittal or conviction.   I'm holding my breath for the shit show that is sure to come....

The Access Hollywood tape establishes that Trump believes he can grab em by the pussy because he is a billionaire. That would be useful in a sexual assault case.

That is why I have the feeling that Stormy and McDougal are going to change their story at some point and claim that Trump sexually assaulted them in some manner and that the hush money payments were not to cover up an affair but done in exchange to not press charges.  Since the statute of limitations expired on misdemeanor charges of falsifying business records, there has to be a secondary crime that would allow the DA to elevate this to a felony.

I'm sure Trump's defense has to incorporate the fact that he doesn't do his own bookkeeping and probably hasn't seen a spreadsheet since he was in his 20s in college.
