Lighting fast shifts maybe cool but you are never going to be able to take a supercar anywhere near its limits on the street, and going through the gears is a ton of fun. Nothing like the sound of going through the gates on the pre-paddle Ferrari's.

I owned quite a few fast cars when I was a bit younger. All setup for street racing as well as autocrossing.  Oddly enough as I got older (near 50 now) I decided I didn't want speeding tickets, racing on the highway tickets, or to lose my license.  It was pretty easy to ween myself off of cars and instead get involved with PC racing sims instead.  Now I spend far less money doing dumb things in the virtual world I could never afford or would probably kill myself doing in reality.

If i owned a real c8 I'd straight up be going to jail or the morgue. Too much temptation for the old ways.

There is no question modern automatic transmissions are better in virtually every single vehicle made (not just supercars), but sometimes it's more about the experience than it is about pure bleeding edge performance. While I'd never even consider a manual in a new pickup (or any other truck for that matter) even if they were offered, I also would never consider an auto in a vehicle I'd buy just for fun, like this one I bought last fall:

And then there's this behemoth that has 18 gears and two sticks. Part of the allure of driving it is the challenge of mastering the skill of shifting the thing:

Are fast cars made faster still by autos? Yep. Does that make them more enjoyable to drive? Not necessarily.

Halo cars built in very small numbers.  Can't touch either generation for the price of a Z06.

The first generation (2nd really) was good for its time but nothing compared to a modern car.

The recent GT is pretty amazing but untouchable.

Because the actual performance of these cars is so absurdly beyond what's practical in normal life that ownership boils down to the experience of driving more than strip or lap times.

Having a stick is more interactive for the driver. More entertaining, more interesting. That's the point.

If it's your track car and lap times matter do what works for you.

If it's your toy, make it enjoyable.

Just the standard C8 with the LT2 6.2 liter is fast, the Z-06 is a supercar and easily worth 150K.
I have 5,000 miles on my 2023 C8 and it is a very fast and powerful car.
I cannot imagine what the Z-06 is like.

Ah meh, blah. …. I like the lines but the cost/rwhp ratio is outta whack.

At one time you could get an 800+HP Demon Challenger for $85K.

Ride-wise, the Demon would be much more comfortable than the Z06, due it to being much heavier at 4400+lbs (like Hellcats). Plus that weight also makes it more controllable at the really high “stock car” speeds these cars are capable of.

A supercharged hemispherical V8 engine, when mated to a Tremec A8 tranny,  … rules the road. Both hands on the steering wheel.
