Noticed this on my daughter’s car today. Not from an accident, just appeared. Could this have happened from a rock chipping the paint, then moisture getting under it? It looks like the paint has bubbling around it. Ironically, it was in a shop last week for mechanical issues. Could it have been from an automotive fluid? Not trying to point fingers, just curious what could have caused this.

Looks like a failure over a poor refinish unless it's a 90s car.
Stain ring say it's been growing and certainly could have started with a chip. I would not rule out damage caused by chemical, but likely some time ago. |

Thanks so much. its a 2017 model. Given the location just above the windshield, a rock chip does seem likely. It is an odd spot for a chemical to have been spilled on it.

2017 Hyundai Elantra. To my knowledge, it is original paint.

Normal for 7 year old white paint. Probably initiated by a chip, but was going to happen sooner or later.
