I’m married with children but sometimes think if I wasn’t I would pack it up and move across the country or live in a van.  But I don’t really hear about single people doing that.  Maybe it’s because I only deal with white collar office types.  Does being married with children keep people from doing crazy stuff?

one man's crazy is another man's fun.

You are going to have to give specific examples, boring dude.

I would probably live in a shed on a farm in Tuscany. Ride a motorbike through the countryside and hang glide off the tops of mountains over the valleys.

I’ve got a single friend and coworker in his early 40s quit a full time big city fire gig making over 100k on a whim to move to Montana.

He only had a few years invested in the pension, so I can’t say I blame him. Lots of other dudes thought he was nuts, I was jealous.

Same.

Want to ride a dirt bike offroad across America?  Sure thing!

Want to go see a ton of National parks, go to Vegas for Shot Show then ride to the Pacific Ocean and then back home? Sure thing!

Want to drop everything in less than 2 weeks to take another job 9 hours away that will triple your normal pay, sure thing!

Want to go sky diving and spend quality time with questionable women, sure thing!

Want to go skiing, visiting CO, and eating out, Sure thing!

Want to have kids/grandkids who will take care of you in old age and visit you in the nursing home? Ehhhhh.... that probably won't be happening for me.

The sum total of life so far has been pretty awesome. Yall's mileage may vary.

"Doing crazy stuff" gets old just like everything else. Now, staying home by myself, drinking wine, working on house projects, or having women over to make dinner together and go at it, is pretty much ideal.

I do the pondering thing as well. Then I realized. The bad decisions were mostly female related…..So I decided fuuuuucccckkk that.

Imma go Leroy Jenkins from here on out. Fly airplanes, play craps, go to concerts in Vegas, skip work to snowboard, etc etc.

Basically I’ve decided to continue making bad decisions. Just different ones.

I’ll be in Vegas in August. See ya there for some bad decisions?

I want to retire early, so that kind of keeps me in line. Stable career, save save save. I guess the timing of my retirement will determine how crazy I am. Until then, I'm a boring homebody who drinks whiskey, lifts weights, and goes camping a few times a year.

Depends on what you call crazy. on one hand, I've got a good paying stable job and a paid off house with property. Kinda the definition of responsibility. On the other hand I have hunting licenses and tags in four states this year and will be making offshore fishing trips in AK, CA, and WA. I buy whatever guns and toys I want whenever I want. My married friends think that is crazy. I haven't sold everything and disappeared off grid, but its on the table. I hear Thailand is nice.

I still had responsibilities when single. My work provided all the insanity I could possibly want. I looked forward to the all too rare home time alone with my dog, drinking coffee in the early morning on my deck overlooking a small town. The trade off to being responsible, I guess, was really looking forward to real peace and contentment.

I've done all those things - and I'm married.   I might ask her opinion, but I don't ask for permission.

I actually bought a truck when she was out of town for a conference once.   To her credit, she came home and quipped "I'm guessing the truck outside is ours?".

I bought a racing motor and it sat in the garage for a month before I think she even noticed.

I'm pretty sure she's seen the fifty cal - it's hard to miss in the "gun room," but she hasn't said anything.

Having disease free sex and no need for plastic is also a big perk.   I don't have to buy anyone overpriced drinks first.   And that she's thinner and better looking than most women in their 20's, along with cooking and cleaning and working...   that all helps me tolerate her... quirks.

Ya, mother fuckers with money go and do crazy shit and live by the seat of their pants.

Me? I grew up a poor, and I got married young so I stayed poor. Only now in our 30's do we have money and its just because our rents low and we have no kids and a combined income.

The reality is I hated living at home because it made it impossible to fuck/meet chicks so I would still have to live on my own, and with the cost of apartments now I would have to work a considerable amount at work to afford it and by the time you're done working all those hours to pay for a roof and car over your head? Well honestly the idea of doing anything sounds miserable.

So basically my life now but with even less money and a whole lot less pussy.

Yes dammit. You absolutely should spend some. Just lemme know when you wanna go to Vegas or something. I can show you how it’s done.
Doesn’t have to be Vegas. Could be NYC, Miami, Los Angeles I’ve been to all of them. Lots of fun to be had my man.
