Everyone thinks their generation is special.  Its not a boomer thing.  It's not an x, millinieal, or zoomer thing either.  It's a kid thing.

I would say fish & chips is a British thing.  I don't even like seafood and the fish & chips I had in a tiny roadside town in Scotland is one of the best meals I've ever had.

Generation X was, in general, the last cohort that was allowed substantial amounts of unstructured and unsupervised play time, which is typically when "Don't tell Mom!" accidents happened. The parents of the Millennials - overwhelmingly Boomers - tended to be much more protective of their kids and put them in structured sports activities and limited unsupervised time. That's become embedded in culture and law by now.

Are there millennials and zoomers who do stupid things and get hurt without their parents around? Of course. But it's not nearly as prevalent as it was.

Boomers got stitches, Gen X got Bactine and a chance to STFU or have dad scrub it out.

Bactine? Hah!  That kill pain. My parents and grandparents wanted to amplify it to teach us a lesson. We got peroxide or, if they were out of that, Mercurochrome.

I probably got it from this thread in the first place, but all the childhood injury talk reminds me of this:

LofuckingL!!

Our medicine chest was stocked with bandaids, bactine, and A&D ointment. Bactine was this magical medicine that could heal all wounds.

One time, after watching a movie where the bad guy busted the bottom off a bottle and threatened the good guy with it, I thought “self, you should try that!”

So next day, down at the neighborhood pond, I picked up a bottle and smashed it against a rock, whereupon it immediately shattered in my hand.

I walked a half mile home, blood dripping down my arm. Neighbors driving by stopped and asked if I needed help.
“Nah, I live just up the street”

Get home, dad’s in his lounger, enjoying a quiet Sunday.

“Dad, I cut my hand up on a broken bottle!”

“Well, wash it off, get the glass out, and try not to bleed on the carpet”

Dad was a doctor. His main treatment was giving injuries a tincture of time.

He subscribed to the philosophy that if the kid was crying and wailing, they were probably ok. It’s when they were quiet that he’d get concerned.

I could have had that meal anywhere in the US. For lunch, we went to a pub which served hamburgers with decent beer.

I did have a really nice carvery/pub next to my hotel. That was at least somewhat non-American experience food.

I got a big 'ol dollop of what I thought was chocolate pudding at a luau in Maui.  The 1st mouthful was . . . memorable.  Those who know, know.  Yuck!

Poi?  I don't remember it being dark though.  I didn't think it was bad.  Just flavorless and kinda icky texture.  But I also just sampled it, not shoved a spoonful in my mouth expecting something else.

Argentina flag on the outside German flag on the inside. A lot Germans moved to Argentina. Many right after the war including some not nice people.

Still more Italians by population between the wars. Something like 30 percent of the people now are of Italian descent. So I was told when I was there.

Flag of Argentina with German flag color inside, reference to the Nazis that fled there after WW2.

Unrelated meme because no freeloading.
