I haven't toyed with the idea of shortening the BCG. I have heard their hell on tooling to machine
You would have to shorten the forward part of the bcg to keep the FCG functional. maybe from the firing pin area? then shorten the pin. and then there's the gas key...Maybe your seeing a different picture than me. on the upper maybe you could cut out a section behind the shell deflector then step it (ie make an arbor to hold it on center with the bolt raceway, turn one half with a larger ID for A few 100 thou then the opposite cut the OD to slip fit the ID of the other half. then run a dowel pin or two trough the pic rails and freeze one half, heat the other and press them together with some sort of bonding agent. this would be easier with a slick side upper but should be doable between the shell deflector and forward assist if your after the mars look. Maybe 3d print a lower? Or maybe modify a lower like this https://www.gunsamerica.com/digest/versatile-ar-ever-multi-cal-windham-rmcs-4-full-review/ then 3d print your magwell/front pin area. |

Quoted: Yes, 1.830". Scaling down the whole gun. I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of making mags if I just wanted an AR in .221. I'm debating shortening the BCG instead of relocating the FCG. I do have a 0% lower I may use. View Quote You not only have to chop the BCG to fit the shortened receiver, but shorten the firing pin & then cut enough out of the firing pin channel for the shortened firing pin. Might take a close look @ the POF. They had to shift some of the FCG rearwards b/c they shoved a .308 mag into a an AR-15 length receiver, and they've got the base of the firing pin hanging out in thin air. Fascinating project, Josh. |

View Quote Well I'll be! Noticed they dovetailed the gas key into the bcg and cut off 1 bolt. I'm liking where this is going! if they can stuff a 2.8" cartridge into a 2.3" mag well then should be no problem lobbing off 1/2" from the current platform. now you got me thinking. |

It's a Pearce pinky extension for a Glock mag, trimmed to fit and held on with a 10-32 screw and threaded onto the cut down ALG handguard.
I've been thinking I want you to paint it. j/k! |

What if we could build a machine shop by 3-D printing parts and using Legos?

Oh, I was just being silly, but I've had good success w/ threaded steel rod inside Lego Technic pieces. I used superglue, but we could just put nuts on em and start bolting structures together. For some stuff you're gonna need steel, and you'll need a lot of weight to hold the thing steady.
Given the speed of home 3-D printers and the cost of Legos, it would take one years to build up a large mill... |
