Needless to say I'm extremely new to guns in general. I recently bought an AR 15. It's got a DDM4V7 Daniel Defense 16" upper. I was for the first time trying to put optics on the rail and I was confused at first and it caused me to be more aggressive than if I knew what I was doing. I scratched the anodizing and maybe even slightly scraped the aluminum itself. I'm really worried about it because I paid a lot of money for it and plan on it being my only one. Do you think it's not going to last as long as it would have had I not been a stupid noob and knew what I was doing and not scratched it up? Will it corrode early now and/or wear quicker to the point of eventually it not properly fitting optics? How much wear is normal on the rails and how long do they usually last?

Actually, I'm not sure how to attach a pic, so I guess I can't show what I'm referring to. But does anyone have any examples of how worn they can be while still being able to reliably secure accessories to the rail?

Also, sorry if this is not the right spot to put this post. I wasn't sure.

You’ll be fine. People jump out of airplanes, helicopters, and use these things in combat. Nothing to worry about.

It’s fine.  However, if you really want to touch up the scratch get a bottle of Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black.

Also don't worry about corrosion.
Aluminum doesn't rust.

So even if you did that, it will be ok.

Nice. That's good. I don't think what I did was quite that bad.
