Damn, I didn't even post my other block II rifle. Well, we have some great looking rifles posted. Is this the biggest thread ever here? (I know it's mostly comprised of us talking about small changes to our gear, but still)

But I'm surprised we haven't yet been told to make a "M4A1 SOPMOD Block II clone picture thread PART 2" yet. 401 pages is a lot for one thread... The multiple part threads are due to the fact that earlier iterations of the forum had 100 page thread limits, meaning that at Page 100, the thread had to be re-started. Not sure what, if any page number limit the forum currently has for threads - but I do actually prefer having the single - if prodigious thread - none of the information is "lost" that way, though it may get buried. Then again, I'd bet it's pretty daunting for someone who hasn't been following the thread to try and get started absorbing everything in it. It would be great to be able to try and comb through the whole thread and consolidate all the information - maybe update the original post for new users - but I have a feeling it would take a hell of a long time, that none of us probably have. ETA: Just some metrics from rough calculations: The MK 18/CQBR Thread is on Part II with 190 pages (290 pages) The MK 12 SPR Thread is on Part II with 168 pages (268 pages) The ARs in Action is on Part III with 105 pages (305 pages) ...and the biggun: The Official AR15 Picture Thread is on Part XXII with 154 pages (2,254 pages) This thread has definitely grown huge quick, though: First post: DocBach Posted: 2011/7/7 12:07:43 PM EST Page 400: Will816 Posted: Yesterday (2012/12/11) 8:58:43 PM EST One year, five months, six days, eight hours, fifty one minutes - and interestingly, zero seconds. ~Augee |

Threads recently started being allowed to go over 100 pages, that was the reason there used to be so many "Part 2" etc. I don't know what it goes up to now, maybe 1,000? 10,000? If it's 1,000 then I'm sure we will hit that in a year or two. But let's face it, this thread is mostly about 20 of us just filling space up. I love you guys |

Took a few days and it was mostly scrolling through pictures but there is definitely a ton of information consolidated in here. Now every time I need to reference something I google a few words and add the phrase "sopmod block II clone" at the end to pinpoint whatever I'm searching for. |

I'm chomping at the bit waiting for my stamp to arrive so I can finally put a stock on my CQBR Block II. My paperwork went pending on 11/5 and already I'm considering what other CQBR uppers I can throw on my soon to be SBR lower.

Yup, wouldn't have believe it if you told me.
Edit: Like with most failures, the root of it may have happened some time ago, but when it actually failed I was just sitting at the bench, shooting. |

This guy on Lightfighter had the EXACT same failure using a Harris bipod: http://lightfighter.net/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9046084761/m/884101603/p/1 It seems like the lower rails on some of the RIS IIs do not like the "snap" of a Harris bipod's legs being deployed using spring tension. I have numerous rounds through three rifles with RIS IIs but I don't us Harris bipods - never had any problems. It's a theory, anyway... |

I've been using a bipod on my block II for quite a while with no issue. Hopefully I will continue to do so.
|
|
|
This was becoming a common enough problem that DD redesigned the bottom rail of the RIS II as a PIP to remove the lightening holes and strengthen the bottom rail at that point.
I'm somewhat surprised they made you send the whole upper just to replace the bottom rail, though - I would think all you would have to do is send back the damaged part, and have them ship you a replacement. ~Augee |
|
|
My M4A1 rail doesn't have the holes. I never thought of this being the reason they removed them. Interesting.

Matech rear BUIS there are vendors that sell them for $40 shipped and an A2 pistol grip is probably $5 shipped. What exactly is your budget? Budget is around 100-120 for the rail and 30-40ish for the matech if I buy new. I am watching the EE now and didn't see and rails on there. Usually I see 2-3 for sale every time I'm on there.
