That's a KAC sling mount.

I love the KAC sling mount but the lack of rotation limited movement is bugging the crap out of me. I bought a DD one to replace my current KAC swivel and mount, maybe it won't look as bad.

I think the technology has passed up the little Insight pistol lights.  Hell, the Surefire X300 Ultra puts out something like 500 lumens.

200 Lumens from a WMX200 is more than sufficient. It's not like they need the biggest brightest light for CQB.

Agreed. For indoors, the 125-lumen M3X/M6X LEDs are quite good; hell, I like them outdoors up to about 30 yards. The WMX200 is even better. The Insight lights have more spill than the SureFire in my experience. If I need more throw, I have my M600C for that. There is indeed such a thing as too much light in some situations.

500 lumen lights don't really have a brighter hot spot.  Spill however, is a vastly improved over 120, 200, etc. lumen models.  Given that clearance is often performed at low or high ready, more spill is a great advantage since I can see something without pointing my weapon directly at it.  Also enhances peripheral awareness.  Work under the assumption that every shadow contains a bad guy, therefore lighting an entire room with better spill from a WL is never a bad thing.

It's not going to burn through walls, blind you, or light furniture on fire.

So because you don't need that much light, no one else does. Got it.

Common sense. So fucking rare it should be a super power.

I may be wrong, but the soldier nearest to the camera in the third picture - A2X on the muzzle? Looks too long to be a standard A2. . .

Some of his lowlight stuff is interesting and has been disagreed with by many.  Like flashbulbing to the point of him looking like a moving disco ball.

But I agree with the spill part.

Just a quick question for people with different types of lights: I have a 952V on the Block II but nothing on the PR yet (except when I stick the 952V on it for pics), I am thinking about permanently relocating the 952V to the PR and getting something new for the Block II.  Should I go the M3X route, or maybe wait for the new IR Surefire 300 or 600 series? Or just cheap guy it and get a second 952V?

I originally had an M300 on the Block II and I loved how small and low-profile it was, but I wanted IR capabilities.

Also, I think the PR might get a laundry bag and rattle can treatment in the next few days.  I've been hesitant because its still unfired, but I need to change that and rough it up

Pic of course:

When I paint it I'll get some new, better quality ones up.  I'm still refining my technique with the 7D and I've much improved since that pic was taken.

Why not get the WMX200? It's way superior IMO to the M3X series, and probably better than the Surefire's.

(Augee: I suspect that your punch is not manufactured to the correct dimensions).

An interesting observation is that the throw levers freely move about when not installed on a weapon. I imagine that this may be due to the original mount using 4 washers while the MkII use only 3 of them. However, when mounted to the weapon they lock up very securely (depending on how tightly you adjusted them, of course).

The included instructions were clear for the most part. The only issue I ran into is that they mentioned to install all the washers convex side up. However, the original washers were installed convex side up, covex side down, convex side up, and so on. This led me to believe that the instructions have a typo.

Other than that, here are some pics:

It's a KAC M4QD Comp.  You can see the indexing notch - the M4QD is slightly longer overall, though the suppressor portion is the same size as the A2 comp to accommodate a standard BFA, among other things.

The thing that you must remember about the SU-233/PVS Gun Light (M3X) is that the use of the M3X by "those in the know" dates back to around the 2004-ish timeframe, IIRC - but it is relatively old.

At the time, the "top of the line" from Surefire was the M962C for long guns and the W114DG for pistols.  Neither the Scout, nor the X300 were available.  Compared to those two, the M3X was sufficiently bright, small, low profile, and light, and more universally mountable.

Furthermore, super bright white lights are simply not as important when you're conducting nighttime CQC using NV and IR lasers.  The use of the VBL in a military context differs greatly between civilian HD and even most LEO applications.  Keeping up with the ever-increasing "Lumens Race" is not really a high priority along the continuum of SOPMOD items.

After the release of the Scout and the X200/300 series, the M3X persisted because it was incandescent, allowing it to be used with an IR filter, something that has only recently become possible with LEDs like the Vampire-series Surefires.

At the end of the day, sure, the M3X is, in almost all senses of the word, "old tech."  But if it works... it works.  That lights that are twice as bright are available doesn't suddenly make the M3X dimmer, and it's still a pretty light unit for what you get in terms of functionality with a polymer body and better integrated backplate than anything available for the X300.

The question is "is the light bright enough to be useful to you?"  This will depend heavily on what you use it for.

The sturm und drang of the Lumen Wars tends to obfuscate the fact that much of the heaviest fighting in the Global War on Terror was largely conducted with rifles equipped with Surefire Millennium series incandescent lights.  Which is not a statement against progress, but many of the "brighter, brighter, brighter!" types seem to be pushing this idea that if your WL doesn't turn night to day, you've got one foot in the grave already.  Diminishing returns and all that.

FWIW, having not used either, but based on the features - I am substantially underwhelmed by the M720V for the price.  The WMX-200 is pricey, the M720V is asinine.  I'm unimpressed by the switching options, and would rather have the WMX-200 or a simple M620V or M600 with V-series bezel than the RAID.

ETA:  Nothing to offer by way of "ownage," I'm afraid.

...but I'm drawing nearer and nearer to returning CONUS, and might be able to actually contribute some updated photos!

I too would go with the NF.

Once my stamp arrives for my MK18, I'm gonna transfer the T1 currently on my black M4A1 block II to it, and pick up an NF 2.5-10x for the black block II.

I decided to scrap the MK12 project, at least for a while - reason being that I don't really have access to any ranges that go beyond 200/300 yards. I figure the two 5.56 guns I have are more than capable at those ranges and a precision AR would be overkill.

One thing my collection has been missing (and something I've been drooling over for a while) is a good semi-auto .308 battle rifle, so I bought an M1A - the MK12 will have to wait.

Some may end around $65-75at auctions's end, but I was impatient and just got a new one when it popped up for $80 shipped with Buy It Now.

How is the switch from an Aimpoint (Mod 0) to an EOTech (Mod 1) an improvement?

It is a dual switch for an insight/lid laser and insight light. $75-$100 on ebay Is easiest to find new

Ok. I'll be running a SureFire M300B, so sounds like this switch won't work for me.

Then you need a surefire sR-D-IT SWITCH. Same principle as the insight one but for surefire light and insight laser...

Yeah I got one too, but am seriously debating going back the separate tape switches for each...
