Grip is from a Mk17 SCAR, I hate the tacky feeling of painted grips (at least the spray paint I have here).

Usually I run a DD Mk18 RIS upper (FN upper, FN SOCOM bbl and FN BCG), then built the Mk18 Mod 0 upper mid Dec using Colt parts upper, N1 stock, Govt profile (Crane cut down) and BCG.

Just curious, regarding gov vs. SOCOM profile barrels: why is one preferred over the other? I personally went with SOCOM, but didn't research the other option.

Need to get another CQD front and maybe a Colt ambi selector. Are CQDs the predominant front sling mount still?

Hopefully by May I’ll be in the market for another WMX200.

Nope. Working on something else not gun related. I haven’t been doing really anything gun related in the past year or so.

Dumb question time. I apologize in advance. The M3X and WMX200 are both discontinued so on newly issued guns what lights are being used? Is it something new or is there just a gigantic stash of lights that is being recycled?

I haven't yet, but I should. I have a Colt lower that this block II is gonna live on, but I stole it from a block I AFSOC-inspired rifle that could use the PSA lower...

I saw one down range on a block II, and FWIW my BN's scout platoon has them on their regular M4A1s.

[Last Edit: Akin] [#41]
I’m sure this has been covered before, but this thread is far too huge to scroll through with any meaningful chance of finding anything, and the search function continues to stymie me.

What’s the deal with slings for these block II M4s?

I’m slowly building one up after Daniel Defense released those rails a while back. I drank the cool-aid and went all in... DD RIS II rail, DD 14.5” midlength barrel, vortex flashhider pinned and welded (I’m not being 100% authentic), DD upper reciever, and DD BCG.

Going to use a lower I have lying around and finish it up some time... still looks odd to me, the brown rails on a black rifle, but apparently that’s the way it is...?

So... what does a sling attach to on the front? I guess I need a B5 SOPMOD stock for the back end of the sling, but what about the front?

Also, anyone know what kind of sling is appropriate for one of these?

Hell, since I have everyone’s attention, what about BUIS? If nayone has a link to the proper ones I’d appreciate it. I have enough info to likely track them down, thanks to the first post in this thread, but if someone has it handy and doesn’t mind sharing... oh, also, is a black B5 stock okay, or should I get a brown one?

Thanks!

@Akin

All the info you seek is on page 1. Good luck with your build.

Edit: Apologies, didn't realize you'd seen the first post. The KAC sights seem to be some of the most popular among the clone guys, but lots are acceptable. I've bought from Operation Parts as well as Weapon Outfitters.

Real question: does any kind of paint hurt Type II hardcoat anodizing?  Or maybe I mean is there any type of paint to avoid because of the Type II?

(And I think Krylon should come out with a Colt Purple color, just because...   )

Aren't these type III? I'm not sure the diff between 2 and 3.

But nah all the common ones are just fine. Rustoleum, Aervoe, Krylon, Skilcraft, all GTG

The purple ones are Type III, and no, you won't hurt it a bit. In some cases, the paint is tougher than what you use to kill it and remove it. MEK is nasty stuff, and even after using it on Aervoe painted parts to remove, I'm still sometimes left with little bits and nasties of paint.

Fun fact: RIS II rails are Type II anodizing.
We've all seen guys who strip painted RIS II's with no problem, so, no worries on your Type III parts.
