Of course it was. Why in the world would you be using a blue spring in that? Blue springs are to tame overgassed rifles.

Standard spring + H2 + .070 + 5.56 NATO = reliable.

This. Mine runs flawless suppressed and unsuppressed. To the point I trust it with my life.

Are you running a can?

I currently have four CQBRs. One with a commercial DD .082 barrel, one with a commercial DD .082 barrel and a Govnah, and two with mil overrun DD .070 barrels (one of which is still brand new/unused that I may soon be selling to fund more KAC goodness). I run two of them 100 percent suppressed - the .070 setup, and the Govnah equipped setup.

I gotta say, I own and have owned a ton of different ARs at this point. That Govnah adjustable GB equipped suppressed CQBR has gotta be my all time favorite rifle to shoot, and 100 percent reliable to date. Approaching 2k rounds at this point. Has been run on the .049 setting with an H2, Sprinco White spring, and solely PMC Bronze 223 since day one. Epic setup.

Just look up camouflaging techniques - I attempted to combine local environment color-matching, pattern disruption, and counter-shading elements when I did this. Probably put too much thought/effort into it, but I think the results are operational No matter what you end up doing just remember, rattle canned rifle is best rifle.

Yeah I do use it suppressed. I was having issues with it when using the .070 setting though. Probably the extra power spring causing issues though. I had that in there for the .08x DD barrel prior to putting the gas block on.

Were you having issues when the suppressor was on it? Because that shouldn't happen on the .07 setting... even with under powered ammo. Check your gas block and make sure it hasn't shifted, Maybe it's a little off and not enough gas is getting cycled.

I can't tell from the tone of your posts if you already knew you f'd up and just ran it anyway or are looking for help at solving this.

Both the MicroMOA and the blue springs are different ways of compensating for an overpassed rifle (of which, stock DD 10.3" barrels typically are). Except the MicroMOA deals with the problem at its source, where gas enters the system, to restrict it. The blue spring just simply adds more spring pressure behind the bolt carrier to slow it down while cycling.

In oversimplified terms, too much gas will cause the rifle to cycle too fast. So you've restricted the gas to slow it down once and then added an extra power spring to slow it down again = too much slow down = short stroking.

Yes, there *may* be some instances where you could get away with running this combo. For instance, if your gun is super clean and lubed properly, if the temperature is nice and neutral, if you're shooting fairly hot ammo, etc… Essentially you're going to be right on the edge of reliability, so with all other situations being perfect, you can probably run a mag through it just fine. But as soon as the gun gets dry, or the temperature drops, or you shoot suppressed and get the gun dirty, or you shoot a slightly lower powered round, etc… basically anything that would slow the cyclic rate down, the gun will malfunction and short stroke.

The 10.3" AR has a pretty tight tolerance of reliable operating pressure. The goal is to keep the system in the middle of that range, not at the end of it. Crane had the huge advantage of having just 1 type of ammo to test for that has a pretty tight spec of pressure, so they were able to come up with the .070 gas port and have the system be 100% reliable both suppressed and unsuppressed. Companies making civilian barrels like DD don't have that advantage, their customers are typically shooting a massive range of pressured ammo from weaker steel cased to hot hand loads. So the way they compensate for that is opening up the port so that the weaker stuff will cycle okay. The compromise is that the rifle is slightly overpassed with full pressure NATO loads and highly overpassed with full pressure NATO loads suppressed, which can lead to malfunctions.

Essentially you just need to decide what and how you're going to shoot and stick with it. If you're going to be shooting both suppressed and unsuppressed often, I'd recommend just going the Crane route — that is — MicroMOA set to .070, standard spring, H2 buffer, good pressure ammo, and you're GTG.

----------

ETA: This is also why gas port discussions on this site and in this thread can be particularly frustrating and useless. You have guys that will do a garage build with gun show parts, running some crazy weird combo of buffer, spring, port, etc… They go out to the woods, put one mag through it on a fresh, lubed rifle. Then they come back and report they've discovered the perfect combo of parts for a reliable rifle.

Not so. Running a couple mags through a certain combo is no way a good test of reliability. You could be running right on the edge and as soon as one minor factor changes, it'll stop functioning. This is also why some of us like cloning - because there's been an insane amount of testing with these, both at Crane and in real operational use - to produce and extremely reliable combination where all factors are known and function properly in a wide variety of conditions. As long as you're using good ammo, you've got a configuration that will tick away like a swiss watch as long as you stick to the blueprints. Start f'ing with it, and all bets are off.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.  I was thinking the bend above the headlights wasn't quite large enough to be an escort RS.  But it has a similar look.  I dig that car.  I had an old Civic when I was a young man.  I forget exactly what year but I think it was an 82.  When I was going to college the battery gave out and I'd push start it.  Pop it in 3rd and it would start up every time.  And still run fine with a weak battery.  Go figure.  It was a lot of fun to drive.

No problem.  If memory serves it's a Pelican 1600.

I've got another SBR with a DD RIS II but it's far enough away from a CQBR I don't post it here.

Between EC's and TinyCrumb's pics, I need two motherfucking Shake Weights.... :-/.... also, fucked up my Mod 0 by adding a LAW folding stock adapter... wont post pics in honor of the clone gods, but I dig that my Mod 0, which is my favorite SBR, now folds as small as my SCAR 16 SBR and to my surprise, just as small as my Coharie MP5 SBR with a type F stock...

nevermind... crappy iPhone pics just because... will take them down if people freak

and just FYI, the dot clarity on the Holosun 403GLs is crazy clear... like aimpoint T2 clear... SCAR 16 hasn't killed it yet... will throw on the SCAR 17 to see if it will survive
