Don't remember if this has been posted here or not, but it's one of my faves. This is from ADCO's industry forum (tacked thread).

These were real deal Mk 12 uppers being produced for SOCOM. Steve's (bigbore) original post as follows:
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_130/143864_Creation_of_a_REAL_SPR.html

Gotta have barrels

And upper receivers

Torque, check and retorque the barrel nut

Install the gas block and gas tube

Install the locking pins for the FF RAS

Tighten the screws on the gas block

Install the OPS INC collar

Snug up the OPS INC brake

Check headspace

Uppers ready to test fire (note lack of fancy bolt carrier)

Load the mags

After a successful test firing, the OPS thread protector is installed and they are ready to go.

I have a question about installing the brake: is there any worry about damaging the barrel extension pin from torquing the brake?

I don't think you have to worry about the barrel extension pin as much as the aluminum groove in the upper.  I know KAC an Geissele make a tool that holds the barrel by locking into the lugs for just this reason.  Im not sure how common it is as Im sure the vast majority of muzzle devices are installed the way you see above.

Thanks for reposting those pictures.

Another interesting note is the barrels in the pic.  Some or all are profiled for the PRI FS/GB.

I think you're right. I installed it on my current upper without any issues but was always curious.

I guess if it's good enough for thousands of the real deal uppers, it should be fine for me.

I noticed those grooves too but couldn't tell what they were. That makes sense.

I had to get into the safe today, so I thought I would grab a couple quick pics.
A quick comparison of the Gen1, Gen2 and PRI new retro upper -

Side veiw : Gen1 upper (top), Gen2 upper (middle) and PRI new retro upper (bottom)

Top veiw :  Gen1 upper (top), Gen2 upper (middle) and PRI new retro upper (bottom)

Complete:  Gen1 upper (top), Gen2 upper (middle) and PRI new retro upper (bottom)

Paperwork has been sent in for the AEM5, check cashed and in a month I will call on the status.

I know I will regret saying this but once the AEM5 comes in then that beautifully black Gen1 upper will have to meet some "color in a can".

And I have gone as far as I want to go with the MK12's  so just a heads up to the guys in the thread, there might be a couple #38 rails in the ee a little later.

And I need to stop putting it off and pick up a pair of AEM5's myself.

Ok I only have a couple parts left to get before I start building after I complete and finish my lower. I need a gas buster ch, and a proper scope I know it is already posted about the ts30-a2, vari III, and the MK 4 Leupold but do any of you have a round up of the Leupold model #'s  when shopping around if I pull the trigger for one. I want to know exactly what I am looking for I see all kinds of reticles and illum or non illum etc... I don't want to spend a thousand plus or less if I find a good deal and it not be correct. Thank you

Current state of lower hope to be done in a couple of months

So I've been working on my 5 shot groups since y'all busted my balls about previously posting a 3 shot group. With the earth sun and all planets aligned, the perfect powder charge and good atmospheric contions.....I pulled off the best 5 shot group I've ever shot with my Mod1! (@100yds of course) I would expect a group like this on a good day with my competition build, but I was pretty excited to shoot this with an SPR.

I felt pretty good with this group, so I took a shot at my girls Valentines day present. Dremeled the sharp edges, and I'm good to go.

Since the Mod1 is still down, thought I'd post up a little Holland goodness.

Forum member Eyekhan shot this group with his own hand-loaded 55gr stuff at 100y. That's 0.69" without the cold bore, cold can flier; with the flier, it's 1.91". Haven't yet seen what this gun will do with good match-grade ammo, so we'll do that next time. If you're still doubting the Bison barrels, you're a putz.

If I had a barrel I could do an AAC holland right now. But I don't. If I can get the early Mod 0 Wrangled up, I should be able to build a Mod H with what is left of my current rifle. Might wear the AAC while the AEM lives on the Mod 0.

Anyone recall the torque spec for ARMS #22 rings? I'm thinking 30 inch lbs should be sufficient.
