Just picked up a new AUG.  Anyone got a source for mags at a decent price.  Also how do PMAG AUG mags compare quality wise to Steyr factory mags?

P-mags work fine.

AUG mags are hit and miss for decent pricing.

Magpul are all I use since I have an ingrained tendency to smack mags home pretty hard.

BTW. 20 inch barrel!  Sweeeeeeet!  I love mine.

AC Unity magazines work fine also.

Magpul and AC Unity run great.

Sign up at Steyr’s website for their emails, they have decent sales throughout the year you can take advantage of to get some mags and other AUG parts at a discount.

I’ll +1 the Magpul and AC-Unity thoughts, they are solid and usually more affordable than Steyr.  I’m pretty sure Magpul made theirs originally for the Australian military as a second-source supplier.

The Pmags for the AUG were developed for the Australian Military. They are absolutely solid and my favorite AUG mag. Like others have said, if you want originals just keep an eye out for sales. Factory AUG mags are out there and occasionally go on sale. Same with the AUG Pmags.

Magpul Aug mags take gen 3 team mag for plate and accessories and mag couplers and things like that!

Same for me, still not a bad price. If I wasn't in the midst of building a backup rifle and needing some AR mags for that, I'd nab some.

I have heard some say that just as with ammunition, unless you are on fire or swimming, there is no such thing as enough magazines or ammunition. I suppose it would apply to rucking as well as weight would really add up quickly.

I got my AUG PMAGs in.  They do not make covers for them.  Do they not suffer from feed lip fatigue like the AR15 PMAGs?

AUG mags have much thicker feed lips as they were made to be polymer from the get go, while PMAGs still have to work around the metal feedlip design. AUG PMAG on the left, AR PMAG on the right.

The test will be to leave a fully loaded mag in a hot car. If the lips survive that they should be fine.

I've since received the MagPull AUG mags and they worked 100%. They seem to hold the rounds more secure than the OEM mags and also sit tighter in the gun. I will get more MagPull if I see them cheap again.

Can you please, please, please make 20 round AUG mags? It's really hard to use 30 round mags at the bench because of the rear placement

Also, if you want capacity, get a Beta mag with the AUG tower.

Try look for the post ban USR magazines. They are 10 rounds and going to be a bit pricey. I do not think Steyr imported that much USRs into the US during the ban years.

You can cut down waffle 30s into 20 round mags. I’ve done a few like this. If Magpul made some 20s I’d buy at least a half dozen though.

If you're having trouble finding a 20" AUG in stock, Steyr is selling 20" barrels (in 1:7 or 1:9 twist) and they're currently in stock at $599 (or you can buy 2+ as a "barrel bundle" and save ~20%).

The 16" barrels do seem to be more popular, so if you buy a complete AUG with a 16" barrel, and don't want to keep that length, I'm sure you could sell it.

Or find the 10 or 20 rnd. MSAR mags...a couple of passes with a file on the front nub and they work great in my M1. (I also have a couple of the 30 and 42 rnd. black MSAR waffle magazines).

I just bought another 20" barrel and a 24" barrel using this deal.  That made the 24" cheaper than I could find it elsewhere and as committed as I am to the AUG having another 20" barrel won't be a bad thing.  I went with a green grip for the 20" because I have an ODG stocked AUG on my wish list (both mine are black stocked-any excuse to buy another rifle).

I have used both the factory AUG mags and the PMags shooting 2-gun matches (I'm not an operational operating ninja or anything) and have had great success with both.  I like the way the original waffle mags look better, but I would definitely not hesitate to buy more of the PMags.  I'd be in for some 20 round AUG PMags too.

I've used both and never had an issue. Factory mags look cooler tho lol IMO. Honestly the only reason I have Aug PMAGs is because they were on clearance somewhere (LAPoliceGear maybe?) for like $6-8 I think several years back, I'm glad I did they are definitely 100% gtg

Factory Steyr mags are great - but have one deficiency IMO...if you drop them or slap them in really hard, they can burp rounds. Magpuls don't have that issue in my limited testing...I've got a ton of Steyr mags and only like 7 or 8 Magpuls, but I'm slowly accumulating Magpuls and will pretty much use them.

Now if they'd only make them in FDE so I wouldn't need to keep kryloning them

How's the bolt drop treating you?  My AUG PMAG's bind a bit against the bolt release lever and require a bit extra effort to trip&release on the button for me.  A good bit, in fact

With a loaded mag? I don't really notice any difference, at all...then again it's only been to the range a few times with pmags so it's not really something I thought about. I don't remember needing to do anything funky or otherwise out of the ordinary to hit the bolt release and have it work?

I like that the factory Aug mags are SLIGHTLY smaller and fit in my mag pouches better.  So I have a mix of those and the windowed P-Mags.  Both work very well.

You can find good deals on the factory mags but you have to be searching pertty much constantly or they go out of stock.  They are out there though.

I have not yet been able to find 20 round MSAR mags but that seems like the perfect 'home defense' style magazine to keep in the gun or at the ready for home style shit.

I'm guessing PSA was blowing them out because of the new M2 coming....but 1500 is still pretty cheap IMO. They were around 1800-2k not that long ago.

The cheapest I ever saw was $1399, 6 months or so ago. I had one in my online cart for that for one night, and by the time I decided to go the next morning, the price jumped to $1499. I still went.

I never saw them for $1399 . I did jump on the $1499 sale though since they had the rail, barrel etc. I wanted (also mags were $19 free shipping). Previously I only saw them for around $1800+ to $2600 with optics or rails that I did not like. The AUG is now my fav.

edit: Any mag deals out there?

Right. The A3's and M1's were always priced right at $1750-$1800. A $1600 AUG, given today's inflation, is a heck of a deal compared to the last 16 years when prices have historically been hundreds of dollars higher.

My thoughts exactly, especially considering they are listed at $2600 retail.

Thanks to the PSA sale for $1499 I finally tried the AUG and fell in love. My favorite rifle now and I have LOTS of AR's, AK's, Galil, M1A, etc...The AUG will be the last gun I sell. Is it worth $1499? (or $2000?) To me hell yeah!!

Years ago Steyr sent out an email saying AUG mags were "50% off, buy one get one free".  They meant half price mags but the system sold it as a 50% price mag with a free one too.  I ordered 14 and ended up with 28 for the price of 7.

Now that Steyr is selling a .300BLk barrel I wonder how the original AUG mags handle those rounds?  Lord knows I have enough of them.
