I just picked up a 1907 and need to get some loads together. I can get 180 gr bullets and dies from Grafs. The question is what case to convert, 357 max or 223? 223 seems easier and cheaper, bu there doesn't seem to be unanimous approval of using it on the web. Any advice, tips, tricks are welcome.

My fil has one. I looked into it but never tried. 223 seems to work.

If 223 is workable I think starline makes non formed cases that may be even better to use.

Look at 350 legend specs. 390 base vs 380 on the 351. I think it would sizedown  then trim to length

Update. Put together my first rounds using 223 cases.
By way of background, the original load launched a 180 grain bullet from a straight wall case at about 1800 Fps. The only gun chambered was the winchester 1907, a pure blowback design. Intended as a deer gun, it saw some use by the French in WW1, was a favorite of gangsters and lawmen in the depression, and was used by police and corrections facilities.
Anyway, to make cases I used a harbor freight mini chopsaw to cut the 223 cases just behind the shoulder, trimmed to length, used redding dies to expand the case mouth and loaded 17 grains of IMR 4227 under a 180 grain graf bullet. Worked perfectly, ejecting and cycling the action without issue. Averaged about 1550 fps, which is fine. I was firing for function but accuracy looked promising.
My well worn 1907. It has a marbles tang sight and a fairly rare factory ten round magazine.

One of my 351 rounds along with its second cousin, the M1 carbine, and parent 223 case.

I got one a while back. Made a buffer to replace the original. It shoots good. I bought 180gr bullets but never did go further with dies. I still have some original ammo.

That's a great thread, thanks. My buffer seems pretty good so far. I used the slave rod method to get the recoil spring back in. Once I figured out the method, it's fairly easy.

I load both 351wsl and 401wsl.

I have a bullet sizing die for the 401.

Very cool.

I wish I'd bought an 07 back in the 90's when they were still cheap guns.  They were in the Gun List all day long for $100-150.

My best friend's Grandfather had a 1905 in 35WSL.   We really wanted to shoot it but could never find any ammo for it.

Those are some really neat actions though.

Our agency had a few kept in storage for historical purposes as they issued them in the depression era.

Neat rifle along with the similar .22 long rifle that operates similarly.
