I am going to be doing a run of 5.56 in the near future. I'm looking for ideas for a container to store 5.56 in convenient quantities. Somewhere between 200 and 500 per container. The 5.56 would be loose, not stacked or arranged in any way.
Thanks! |

Good old 30 cal surplus ammo cans? IIRC, I think a 30 cal can hold like 420 rounds of 5.56 on stripper clips, so maybe 380-400 rounds loose?

View Quote 30 cal can holds 600 loose 5.56. There's also the smaller plastic ammo cans. Numerous manf's. There're not as solid, obviously, but a good one with a proper rubber seal works well. Maybe 300 rnds per in those. |

30 and 50 cal ammo cans.
Literally were made to store 5.56x45 ammo in mint condition for indefinite time periods. I bought a truck load 30 years ago and have still to run out. (2600 cans) at .50 cents per can from DMRO. |

I use 50cal ammo cans and 1 gal zip lock bags when I run out of
50cal can space. Fyi, 50 cal cans get heavy and aren't ideal to take to the range. I will toss a bunch in a 1 gal ziplock for range use. Ziplock bags truly are one of man's best inventions. |

For a 1,000 run of all the same I use those big pretzel jugs.
They are easy to move (spin) easy to see HS and bullet type and I can put a tag inside with load data |

I use #10 METAL cans (you can get them from coffee, or freezedried food container). They hold about 500 rds. Label them of course.

Ammo cans are definitely the solution for bulk storage but these bags from Savior are awesome for the a range trip.

The harbor freight knockoff pelican cases named Apache 1800 could be a choice. Retail for $13 then add the coupon of the week to it and can be had for between $7 and $9 each.
Holds about 400 rounds Other wise as mentioned, 30 cal can |
