Man top to bottom one can see quickly how this gear has evolved. I appreciate everyone's input.
I have attempted to find a detailed forum to read so as to avoid asking the proverbial dumb question. . . . ******************************************************* ******************************************************* Question for those in the know. Looking to purchase a dual NV goggle system. Budget I'd like to stay around is $10K [includes helmet and associated mount etc.] My uses as best as I can explain: hiking / walking at night, training and shooting at night and having gear that enhance my ability to respond to bump in the night, rare dispatch of night time predators in/around chicken coop and property. I get the higher the FOM generally the better quality the setup is, but not always. I want something above average in quality field of view and robust. Prefer power by AA lithium batteries. Want something that I can grow the accessories for around as I learn what I need/want over time. Any direct feedback would be appreciated. |

I am really tempted by the new TNVC SF light, but I just can't stomach the price since I already have many good lights. I am using the following solutions for now.
The Inforce is the dual IR/White. The rotary HDS is white, but I also have an IR head. Attached File Attached File |

I took a chance on these Bifrost Gear arms for the Howard Leights. These were about $100 and they are made in China. Bifrost says they are an American company owned by Vets, but this stuff is all Chicom. I only larped around the house, but they seem ok. I mounted these on my FAST Bump.
I am still waiting for my Ops Core arms to show up for my Amps. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

I have not obviously used the HHV a lot, but on initial impression, the HHV's are not quite as comfortable due to their texture. They aren't BAD, though. I would say on donning both, initial comfort impressions are 80-90% as good as the 4D's. Where they are superior, is in stability. The lattice pads make the helmet feel notably more stable. What I think will be the biggest improvement, is that the HHV's won't turn into sweat repositories that annoy you. Advice: Dry-fit your pads before putting on those sticky velcro dots! I had to peel a few off ASAP and re-stick them to mate up well with the inside of my TW Carbon EXFIL. Also of note, I had to make zero adjustments to my positioning of my RNVG's when changing over from 4D. The helmet fit placed them perfectly, just like I had them with my 4D pads in the helmet. I purchased the 3/4" HHV Lattice. I have not tried them with the included sweatband. That addition may push t he comfort up to or beyond the 4D's. |

It allows me to leave the kit "fully loaded" and not fumble with batteries, because the absolute worst that could happen is the battery pack gets nuked from a leak. While sad, that's in another league from the RNVG itself. Also, the HHV pads. They really stabilize the helmet compared to 4D. I have not worn the sweat band, but with it, I'd say they are probably nearly as comfortable. They also won't get sweaty and cold etc. *I am not a fan of HHV as a company, and I know noone there personally. Initial comfort with the pads had me thinking "Yeah, gonna flip these, there is no real improvement over 4D, but they don't feel BAD, so I'll try them". Once I kitted the helmet out and wore it compared to the 4D, the stability is next level, and I'm keeping them, although I wish Wilcox or someone made them instead of HHV, although HHV just licenses them from Carbon, I believe, I still just dislike having "HHV" in my kit list, lol! So this definitely isn't a "brand shill" move. What's nuts is that it's taken me almost 3 years to finally "sort" my night vision kit. All those brands and products mish-mashed into a cohesive whole. |

View Quote I just tried it with the headband. I'd say it's on par with 4D. Some may like it a hair more, some a hair less. The big advantage I noticed is helmet stability, and of course air flow and not turning into waterlogged marshmellows. The construction is such that it is multi-layered regarding "pad stiffness", so it's not just a simple lattice. It kindof made me feel a hair better about what it cost. I do not regret the purchase. I'm going to repurpose my 4D pads into the loaner bucket I'm building. |

View Quote Yes, but it would be a significant amount of work, and if you have the Sordin headband that is not velcro-covered, you will have cut it apart already. Honestly, it's so much of a pain I'd just buy another set. You're looking at snap rings and just a boatload of annoyance. |
