80th div.  NICE CARBINE.  Looks like it had a bayo lug on there at on time and was taken off.  FWIW.

rmcgee, let me get this straight, it has all the parts and appears to be serviceable and it was just all dirty and they had 3 of them for $39.95  each????  And you didn't buy all 3?  Or do they have plugged barrels or something.  Am I missing something here?  What brand is it, or were they?   Poly? Norinco?  Has the world gone nuts?  When people are paying more for a box of .45?  I'm speechless.

Fianlly finished with my project SOCOM.  Last page had the sling mounts.  Today my Magpul AFG and rail came in the mail from Brownells, so I took some time to install it.  Went on great, no problems at all.

So here she is in all of her glory.  I will be carrying it at work.  Single and two point sling configurations both work great.   Thanks to all of the great pictures here for the inspiration!!

Thanks.  I wanted the "tactical" stuff on the rifle to make it functional for me at work, but I still really like the traditional look.  I was going for that, since I also did not want to pay $$$$$$ for the huge, heavy stocks that are out there.  I am thinking of getting a wood stock and trying the hardware on that.  I have seen some really beautiful SOCOMs in wood.

I agree, wood stocked 16" and 18" m1's are down right sexy but I like the all black on yours.

You could always get a nice piece of wood to switch it out from time to time.

I currently have 4 stocks..commercial walnut, USGI fiberglass, USGI birch and USGI walnut. When you can't afford but one m14 clone you buy multiple stocks

OH GEEEEZ.  Thank you.  I totally missed that.  My brain was about to explode thinking it was the rifle.  That's a really good deal on the stock too though.  It's beautiful.  Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks! I posted a few pics over at the CMP forums and they told me all about it. It's got some mixed parts on it. Took it out shooting for the first time today and it shoots great! Here's a pic of it with a stock pouch I just got, pouch is marked "Hoff 1943". The sling is a reproduction.

Stock artwork from a bored GI stock is a Winchester. I blurred out some of this, mods if its a problem I will edit it out.

Finally got my M1A.  Not my dream M1A, but close enough.  I also got 5 magazines and a Chinese bipod.  I have also bought several more magazines and a GI cleaning kit.  I repurposed the bipod to my ruger 10/22.

I shot this rifle a few weeks ago.  The front sight is good enough for government work.  It is also dead.  That means my first upgrade will be a front sight.

Love the color of that wood ..... the Garand .. not the deck - which seems to be the focus of the picture!!!!

I suggest SOCOM 16/II  (P/N 2001V)  from Smith Enterprise. Image
It looks like a new 'stubby' brake is part of the kit.

CQB-16 type SEI

Just using some negative space.
The stock is a new Boyd's birch stock. This is before several coats of BLO. I'll have to take some more recent pictures in the same lighting and see if the color has changed at all.

Nice rifles.  What in the heck is up with your Jeep letters?  It looks like the J is upside down and on the opposite end and that there was a P where the J should be, but not upside down.  You're making my brain hurt.  LOL.

Great photos in your flickr album.  I was going to ask if you had a Sony DSLR.  For some reason it just looked like it to me.  But then I saw your pic of a Canon lense further on down.

Great pics, great guns.  Thanks for sharing.

My Socom 16 that sat around for 5 years and didn't shoot much- just made some recent changes and now I can't wait to go to the range.

Ditched the plastic stock for a stiffer USGI fiberglass one, removed the forward optic rail, added a Fulton Armory handguard, Sadlak's oversized mag release, NM spring guide & TiN gas piston, SEI gas lock (shimmed), XS Sights EBR hooded front sight and a Griffin Armament 7.62 compensator.  Even though the USGI stock is heavier, I was pleasantly surprised when the rifle ended up weighing less.  It went from 9 lbs 5.4 oz bone stock to 9 lbs 0.2 oz.

next to my Sig I just got back from Adco:

Here is my new addition to the thread. My M14 EBR-RI as the US Army SHOULD have bought it. Authentic down to the last detail save for the color of the stock and the scope. All Winchester which is what the Rock Island crew preferred to build on. 3/4 MOA shooter which is simply wonderful. The Sage stock truly does increase the accuracy of the weapon. This weapon is proof of that since I have DOPE on this in other configurations.

Why the Army insists on black weapons when FDE or brown anodizing is readily available stupefies me. Tests have proved that black weapons actually stand out in the dark especially when using night vision when FDE nearly fades into the background. No comments about the Army's acceptance of the M110 SASS which is FDE. I understand that the powers that be in the acquisition process said that was a mistake. The new Remington XM2010/M24E1 is another prime example of this thinking as this rifle was acquired in black when Remington's MSR comes in FDE.

Also this M14 EBR-RI shoots every bit as good if not better than the M110 and for a mere fraction of the total cost of the M110 system. Took the Rock Island crew approximately 20 some odd minutes to convert a rack grade M14 to the EBR for less than a couple thousand dollars each

No guys don't hate yourself for building a black EBR-RI.  Afterall that's what the RIs are, Black.  I'm a real stickler for detail when comes to retro weapons.  I just took a different approach to this one.  Took almost 11 months to get that stock from Impact Guns but it was worth it.  Also I like the Leupold M2 scope better than the basic M3 which is what they're putting on the RI's.  No show off your Black EBRs.
