My attempt at a krylon camo was unsuccessful to say the least, so I went with a two tone.

I dig it.

Looking to give my USGI synthetic stock a krylon job as well, but I have absolutely zero experience painting stocks.

Lightly sand stock, wipe down, spray a coat or two, let dry and voila! Really that simple. I've only painted this one and it was my first. Go for it!

I think I'm going to borrow your shopping list, how much did this set you back, and would there be a better starting place?

Go for it! But be warned, NOTHING about this weapon system is cheap. And you also don't want to buy the cheaper quality parts...buy once, cry once. The hard part in determining the cost I paid would be pricing the rifle itself. I'm pretty new to the M1A platform, so I am not entirely sure of the base rifle's value with all the USGI parts that came with it. In my area (Knoxville, TN), new 2013 production M1A's with no USGI parts are running $1500 plus tax/BG. With my rifle having all the USGI parts, I would at least imagine it being worth more than a new M1A made with all the outsourced parts that Springfield uses nowadays. I sort of lucked out, in that I traded a PTR-91 worth around $1350 straight for it, plus a few USGI mags, mag pouches, older Springfield Gen 1 scope mount, and a BSA scope that's now on my 10/22. Here is a rough price list (shipping included) of everything that I bought, aside from the base rifle itself:

- Sage Navy SEAL Grey Mod 0 EBR Chassis - $850
- Sadlak Piston - $48
- Sadlak Spring Guide - $42
- LaRue LT130 QD Bipod Adapter - $90
- LaRue LT608 QD Scope Mount - $170
- LaRue LT719 Scope Rings - $170
- LaRue Patriot Index Clips - $38
- Harris Bipod - $80
- SWFA 10x42 Mil/Mil Scope - $310
- Butler Creek Scope Cover - $15

That's $1813 in just the extra parts and accessories. Then you factor in mags at ~$30 each for CMI or ~$50+ for good older USGI mags, and then you consider ammo, which is ~$0.50/round at its cheapest for steel cased stuff or older surplus, and the price starts getting up there quickly.

If we conservatively value the rifle at $1500, then that puts the total at about $3300.

Good luck!

Hey!!!  That looks like my Leupy VX-1  2x7.  Which model is that?  I like it when people aren't snobbish about their glass.  Not saying Leupold's suck, but if it doesn't have turrets and lit up cross hairs, it is sometimes look down upon in this world.  Either way, I like it!

I'm probably putting it back on my 6.8mm AR and putting a little higher power scope on my Scout EBR.

Waited way too long to finally get one.

Jan '44 Springfield Armory with a '52 barrel.

Need to refinish the stocks, get a Turner 1907 sling and take her for a spin:

NICE

FWIW, the sling you have on there looks pretty nice too. But the leather ones are nice.  I remember the one Garand Match I shot the guy next to me was using one of those nylon OD slings.

And of course I have to ask;  How does she shoot?

I'd leave the stock as is . That's a nice patina. Just use some mineral spirits to clean it and either raw or boiled linseed oil to oil it up
