I'm starting to reload for 10mm and it seems of the 60 odd lbs of powder I have, I don't have a great one for 10mm.

I do have HS6 I can use,  but it seems it's not the best. I bought a LB of AA#9 today to try.

Any other good options?

I thought AA#9 was similar to 296/H110, but it seems I thought wrong.

180gn cast bullets.

Thanks all.

BE-86, Blue Dot or AA#7 for 180gr. AA#9 is better for 200gr.

What you're saying is, I now have 61lbs of powder that ain't great for 10mm.

I'll look for #7 or Bluedot.

Powder has gone up a. lot. Since I last purchased any. $50. for the #9.

Thanks for the info.

I have HS6, HP38, Titegroup, 296, 231, 2400, Greendot and a few other pistol powders.

I love bluedot, but I would give 2400 a try since you have it.

I've found a few listings for 2400 and #9 in Speer, Lee and Sierra loading books.

I'll try a few of each. I'm not looking for barn burners (yet) just some range fodder.

Thanks all.

Be aware that Blue Dot will give you a daylight-bright muzzle flash.  I consider it a benefit because if I have to use it in anger it will scare the pants off the perp.

A9 isn't terrible. I use Shooter World Heavy Pistol which is an A9 equivalent. I'm bumping 1250 fps with a 180 in a full size 1911.

I have a g20 and been loading 10mm for about 7-8 years. Been using aa9 the whole time.

When I started wanted to try blue dot but couldn’t find it in stock so stick with aa9. It’s been great and have pushed some hot loads well worked my way up to 14.9 of it for a 180 bullet. That was the limit and was at edge of brass

My plinking load is 13.5 of aa9. It still packs a punch but been safe in my gun. I keep some hardcast loaded with 14.5 of aa9. Remember I tested my way up to my limit and back up some with fresh starline brass.

LS, AA9, Blue Dot, 800-X if you can find it and have a way to meter it.

Honestly I liked AA9 the most, LS second fave.

Everything I've read about H110/296 says it's not suited for the 10mm.

I'd like to see some published data as well.

FYI,
BE-86 and Longshot are in stock at Powder valley.
No haz or shipping promos at this moment.
Not sure if they have been hard to find.

Nah.  VV N105 (discontinued) and 3N37.

I do love me some 3N37, 3N38 will go faster, N350 isn't far behind but I'm not after max vel.

VV N340 works well with cast lead 175's running around 1290 FPS in my MP5/10mm. Accurate #9 with 180 FMJ's ran in the low 1300 FPS range and Blue Dot took the same bullet into 1500 FPS territory.

Longshot under 165 FMJ's went into the mid 1500's.

I'm interested in full power loads as well.  I've got a pound or two of Blue Dot and #9 on hand. Just don't have the time right now to do anything with them.

But as a FYI, 6.5 grs of Unique with any 180 gr bullet, I've used cast and Hornaday XTP and HAP, is a very accurate mid power load.  The book lists ~1050 fps but I chronyed/chronied? it at 1150 fps with my PAC chronograph and 5" RIA 1911.  My buddy has been using this load since the '80s and turned me onto it.

I just started with 10mm last week.

6.1 gn of win 244 gave me 1100 fps with 180 gn Missouri hitech coated. Not very hot, but cycled fine and accurate. Good for plinking steel.

I picked Win 244, cause I had some.

I used to read that 800X and Blue Dot were good powders.

I hate 800X.  Bought a lb. maybe 10 years ago or more.  Used it in .357 SIG mostly ad in .40 S&W some.  One of those powders I'd only buy if there was nothing else.

Can't get a consistent charge weight in any of the three powder measures I have (Lyman, RCBS, Lee).

Blue Dot in .40 is a powder that gives me great groups with the 135 grain Nosler hollow points.  It's like shooting a 4" .357 magnum (muzzle blast and flash).

Nor sure Herco would be good for 10MM but it works great for .40 and the 140 grain lead and coated lead bullets from Missouri Bullet Co.

We'll be reloading for 10 MM at some point.  Just shooting it now and accumulating brass.

Not sure if there's reloading data for it but the W572 (ball powder) might do well in 10MM.

The Hogdgen burn rate chart shows W572 being in a group with Blue Dot & AA#7.  It also shows 800X, True Blue and AA#5 being close together.  Not saying that makes it okay to use similar data, just saying that if you can find reloading data for one of them and not for the others it might be worth trying.

And this whole time I have been kicking myself for getting into shotshell reloading right in the middle of covid:

EDIT:  I wasn’t aware that Winchester 572 could also be used in the 10 mike mike.  572 is my preferred powder for 7/8ths ounce loads in the 20 gauge.

Back when I was shooting USPSA, I had a buddy use Winchester Super Target in his .40 cal loads (for major power factor).  I have to wonder if WST would work in the 10mm???

While I love TG in the 9 millie, especially with 147 grain projo’s, this 11th edition of the Hornady manual has absolutely NOTHING listed for TG in the 10mm.

My other reloading manuals are put away right now, but when I get a chance, I’ll look.

EDIT:  the Hodgdon reloading website lists 2 loads with TiteGroup and 180 grain bullets:

But I don’t know which bullet weight you are going with, so you can always check it out here:

I just read up on it some.

It works, but on the low end of the power scale. Also a very narrow window of gns. .6 from min to max.

I have more TG than any other powder, I'm not going to try it. Too fast for the purpose in 10mm.

I’ve still got #9 from when I ran it in Super 38 I’ll stick with it I suppose. The above unique load has me interested that’s always been a reasonable performing powder that was fairly frugal.

I have been using 4.9 to 5.0 grains of Winchester 231 in the .40S&W with 180 grainers.  They run the gun well, although it has been in an indoor range.  So I don’t really get a good idea of how it slings the brass.

In a way, it would be nice to use the same Dillon powder measure still filled with Winchester 231.  Just move it from the .40S&W toolhead and move it to a dedicated 10mm toolhead.  Then just dial it up to drop more powder.

Dillon powder measures are like $110 now.

Thanks.

Nope I farked up. Unique, 2400 and Power Pistol. Back when powder was scarce I had read somewhere about power pistol in 10mm, the ranch store had 1 pound and I bought it.
None of my manuals show it and now I can't find the data for it. I know I'm old but I know for a fact that I have used it.
My Glock 29 generally does good with jacketed 180s but I found some 180 plated hardcast that was less expensive and bought them.I loaded them with the same 8 grains of Unique as for jacketed and I got a group that about equaled the pattern as 12 gauge 00  buck at 20 yards.

Bumping up to the 1200-1300 fps range, I have used Blue Dot and Longshot.  Actually, I've gotten over 1400 fps. with Longshot in a revolver, but I was loading a lot longer than what would fit in a magazine.  Kind of half way between 10mm and 10mm Magnum.  I felt like I could safely go farther, but realistically if I want more power in a 6-shot revolver, I have options in other cartridges that will work better and have tested book loads.

I have also used AA#7 and AA#9 but with lighter bullets.

I believe when it was introduced Ramshot Silhouette was stated to be WAP with additional flash suppressant.

Accurate 9 should be a decent burn speed for 10mm loads.

For my full power load I just buy the Underwood 220 grain hardcast. Carried it around Kodiak and Afognak but I put my faith in the 870 slug gun that I always kept at hand.

I use A#9 for high power loads, 13.5 grains with 180 grain JHP.

For plinkers 7.5 grains of Autocomp and I get 1100 fps with a berry plated 180 grain bullet.  Very tight SD.

Blue Dots isn't bad either with but I tend to get wider SD.
