Ordered 21st century expander dies and mandrills for 223 and 308.

I'm increasingly becoming dissatisfied with the 7.62x54mmR recipe I've been using for nearly a decade for my M91/30 PU sniper, a dissatisfaction that only increased after this morning's range trip.
This afternoon I started playing around with bullet and powder combinations in Gordon's Reloading Tool and am intrigued by a 150 grain bullet with H335 that I came up with. |

Decided to work on depriming 9mm on the Lee APP, swapped it over from 45 and within 15 minutes bent two decapping pins. No more on hand so over with this endeavor for the night before it even started. Pretty tempted to just go back to dry tumbling and call it good.

Finally transferred my .40S&W dies out of an old 550 toolhead into a 650 toolhead. Then I cranked out about 100 rounds using Winchester 231:

Ya, W-231 is not a rifle powder.
Continued casting today, half way through, switched to 32 ACP, 7.62x25, and a 380 mold. Kept going with the 9mm mold. Ordered caliber change kit in 45 ACP for my 1050 from Dillon. Got the dies the other day. I finally realized the value of SP 45 ACP cases, I don't have to change my primer system. Already set up for small size. |

Sorted all of the brass we fired and picked up the last two range trips. Sized and decapped all of the .38 and .357.
I haven't done much with reloading since Dad died in November. I have most all of his equipment and supplies moved but I just can't get back into it. I hope that will change but time will tell. |

Picked up a fair amount of brass and some lead at my local shooting spot. Sized and de-primed 150 45 cases, sorted today's pickings.

Yesterday and today:
Unpacked my Redding Turret Stacker (had no idea such a thing existed until recently). Two of my three T7 turrets are now sitting on it while the third (set up for .223/.308 duties) is on the press. Guy in AZ offers various 3D-printed organizers for RCBS stuff. The second Pro 2000 shell plate holder I bought came yesterday and I mounted it below the first. 8 of 12 slots filled with plates I use the most often and I can see getting a few more. Same person has an organizer for Trim Pro 2 shell holders and pilots. That little thing is slick. Lastly, got a light for a Dillon 750 and installed it on the Pro 2000. I need something in 9mm, 10mm and 40S&W as an excuse to fill a few empty die plates. |

Sniped an APS Bench Auto Prime unit.
Plus some other stuff including a hand primer. I'll pass along my Lee hand primer to my nephew when I see him. No idea whether all the pins and bushings for the APS unit are included in a box of spares that come with it, but if not off to RCBS customer support I go again. (And they're one of the reasons why I keep buying green.) |
|
|
Loaded up the remaining .380 bullets I had. Sized and decapped the rest of the brass that was on my bench. Cleaned up the loading bench.

I sorted another thousand 9mm brass by headstamp this morning. I'm getting about 75 rounds of 9mm brass per pound of range brass, which means that just shy of 75% of the brass I've sorted so far, by weight, has been 9mm. I have one more .50 ammo can to sort, then I'll be getting another batch.
I'm sorting it by headstamp so I know what I'm getting from a bucket of range brass. When I get a 9mm, I'm going to want to develop a self/home defense round for it and then stockpile a bunch of it. I want to use the same headstamp for the loads that go into that stockpile. As well as a bunch more I can use in training. My engineering background tells me that reducing variables increases reliability. I think it's a good principle to follow even if I don't know what the variables might be. The smallest round I handle regularly now is .38 Special. My manual dexterity with 9mm brass has gone way up after sorting so many of them. When I started, I fumbled around a lot. Not so much anymore. All that having been said, I decided that the 9mm brass from one more 60 pound bucket will be the extent of my headstamp sorting. Especially if the proportions stay the same. After that, I'll sort out the 3 or 4 headstamps I want and use the rest for blasting or barter. |

Loaded 100 rounds of .357 with Dad's components. Then, seated some of the .357's he loaded a tad deeper so they will feed in my 1873 rifle.

Went to the LRS…. Bought an 8 pounder of WST and a Dillon powder measure.
I looked at their primer shelf/cabinet, not a single large primer to be found. I did ask them about White River Energetics. I am not the first person to ask about them. |

Sorted a bucket of brass from earlier this week.
Started tumbling 9mm. |

Stopped at Graf and Sons and bought 2 lbs of N330. They had tons of powder including Unique. Might go back for more before heading home .

Inventoried all the pieces that came with the APS Bench Loader I won last week, did same for the hand primer then called RCBS and begged for and bought more parts. Won an APS hand priming tool plus a bunch of strips and a strip loader yesterday. |

Went over to Shooter709's and helped him set up his 750 to 9mm.
And how to change setting on Easy Dial from 700X to Power Pistol. Then he loaded 600 115 gr plated with 6.0 grs Power Pistol. One of my proven loads. |

I actually made it to the range and shot some of my reloads.
I was kinda worried that the COAL’s for both 9mm and .40S&W were too long. NOPE! Both guns ran 100% : Attached File ^^^^That was the CZ75 in Fo-Tay. Attached File ^^^^That was the SP01 in 9mm. My laser could use just a little adjustment. EDIT: now with the Beretta: Attached File |

Did some development on my pipe dream of a “universal” 308 load.
Showed some great success but one of the rifles I wanted it to work in won’t group them. May just rebarrel it because I like the bullets. Waiting on a response from a barrel maker. Also got the 90 cases I shot today cleaned and lubed. Will process them and tumble the lube off tomorrow morning. May try a different bullet in the one rifle and shelve the awesome idea of a single loading for everything. |
