Unloaded a bit of 5.56 over the weekend and picked up some mixed range brass. One batch is in the tumbler and the other's ready to go.
I'm waiting on a case feeder funnel for my new-to-me Lee APP. In the meantime I've 3D printed and tweaked a new case feeder assembly. In the process I managed to bend my decapping pin, so my spare's been installed and I've ordered a new set from Squirrel Daddy. Attached File |

Loaded up some ladder trials of VV N540 with the 69 TMK & 77 TMK.
Prepped about 100 pieces of 6.5CM brass for loading tomorrow. Last week I gave away 8.5 lbs of AR Comp and 1 lb of RL15.5 to an employee because I can’t use them anymore. |

Gun show- picked up a sealed bottle of HP38 for $30, and partial bottles of 2520 for cheap. Got a sealed bottle of 4831 SC for my dad as well. Some buddy of the seller asked if I wanted some H414, and I ended up getting some of that cheap as well- old stuff but still good.
Then picked up about 4 lbs of HS-6 from someone I know for dirt cheap ($40) because it was poured into a different container. Looks legit, will need to verify it before doing a run with it. Ordered some .224 pulls from AR. Grabbed 3k of Fiocchi SR primers at Bi-Mart. Bricks are 1500, so it comes out to $60/k. Need to do some actual loading, but so busy with fishing and other projects! |

Straightened up one of my bullet forts, getting the AR bullets of the same caliber together.
Weighed out 500 165/180 gr FMJ's from AR. About 20 165 grs, rest were 180's. Just what I like. |

Friday I test fired some 60gr tmk and n133 loads I had done, with satisfactory results. Yesterday I finished loading the rest of that box of bullets, so 85 rounds, and put them up. Getting ready to do some more sizing today in preparation of loading up my go to load for my sbr, 50gr vmax over lt30. That’s a laser beam of a round out of my 12.5’er

Processed all the brass we made at the range Sunday afternoon. Now awaiting some .380 FMJ from AR and will load some for my wife once they get here.

I picked up a used Dillon 650 this weekend with casefeeder and conversion kit for 45 acp. Snagged it for 625 otd which I didn't think was too bad.
I was going to try one of those double alpha plates and get a 9mm kit for it since that's mainly what I got it for and see how it works. I currently have a 550 and single stage. Oh, first I need to find another workbench or something to mount it to. |

Primed and expanded 200+ .380 to load once the bullets get here.

Trimmed a pile of brass for various calibres, always my favourite part of handloading.
Lately I've been doing some load testing for a few different calibres, mostly to improve upon prior recipes. That means I've been going through my stash of bullets (and remaining primers) a little faster than usual. So I stopped by my LGS this afternoon to pick some bullets up when I saw something on the front counter that made me double take: A customer was buying a brick of large rifle primers. I haven't seen a brick since the early days of an event concerning an unknown virus of unknown origins. Turned out that the store had one more brick of the Federal 110s so I jumped on it immediately. CAD$169.95 for 1000, which Americans will probably raise an eyebrow at but that's about what they're going for up here a) when you can find them (it's usually just Ginex and not that often) and b) when they aren't CAD$25 for a sleeve. It'll be enough to keep me supplied for a while. So it was a good day for reloading activities -- as long as I don't remember I just paid three times the price for LRPs that I did just a few years ago. |
|
|
Cleaned the ex heating oil tank room (switched to geothermal some time ago) as the first step in turning it into a gun room. Installed two HEAVY commercial grade packing tables (second hand, steel frame) into an L-shape. Asked for quotes for for electrical work in the "armory". Tomorrow I will install the shelves on one wall and map the blind nuts positions on the reloading table top so that I can easily switch between the SDB and a single stage press. The gun cabinet and cartridge cabinet should also be moved from one room to the gun room, but it takes a few guys to move the gun cabinet in particular.
I was also considering getting a Garmin Xero C1 chronograph, but couldn't justify the price yet. |

After getting situated back into reloading --after about two years..... I got my reloading area set up.
I bought some Midwest Powders MP842, probably 4 years ago, and just got around to loading some 55 gr .223 rounds--starting low. I am going to the range really soon with my chronograph to see how they do. I have read that some lots of this power can be a little hot, so I am being very cautious. |

Turned a small batch of wheel weights into 1lb ingots this morning. Yield was just under 30lbs worth.
Also ran a batch of .223 brass through the wet tumbler. Yesterday I dropped off a partial 5 gallon bucket of scrap brass at the recycler. Trying to get as many small projects done as I can. I have a mountain of brass to process, but no time. Need to cast bullets, work up some .300blk loads, etc, etc, etc. Not enough hours in the day. |
|
|
Stopped by the range and picked up a 2 gallon bucket of brass. Lots and lots of boxer 7.62x39, 300BLK, 30-30, 30.06, a bunch of 10MM, a few .45 GAP, quite a few .38s and .357s 10 or so 45-70,a few 8mm and a couple handfuls of other calibers. There was more .223, 9mm, .40 and .45 than I could pick up in a week. Left that there. I already have a few 5 gal buckets of those.

I made a thread earlier this week about my first visits to Scheels while visiting family in Idaho.
While there, I made the rounds of gun shops in the area and ended up with a decent number of reloading components...things I have not been seeing in stock locally. In addition to the Scheels purchases (Win 296 and Hodgdon LeverEvolution powders, Remington 5 1/2 SP primers), I found cans of UNIQUE in another shop and bought one for the unhappy price of $52.95. That same shop also had an 8lb jug of Bullseye and a couple other Alliant powders! I literally have not seen new Alliant powder in a shop anywhere else in the last couple of years (home or Idaho). While on vacation, American Reloading got me for a 5 lb jug of their 2400 replacement and 5000 of the "blem" small pistol primers. Will be great once it cools down enough to make evenings in the garage loading shop pleasant again! Rob |

Tested my starting .357mag load of 158gr xtp, SPM, 8.7gr 3n37. Everything went well, will ladder it up to 10.5gr which gordon's says should be safe.
Working up a 3n37 load for 9mm, hoping to get a 6.7gr load over 124gr xtp for NATO pressure of 42k. Won't start that high obviously. |

Brownells had a smoking deal going on the other week, so I bought an 8lb jug of VV N540, even though I haven't shot any of the 1 lb I got a while back. I do have a powder hoarding problem... so this is making up for having to give away that jug of AR-Comp!

We turned a lot of reloads and factory ammo into empty brass last week. Today I sorted out the .223 brass, found a bunch of that AMNT stuff that has the tiny flash holes, so I set it aside for emergency use only! Someone else at the range is shooting that stuff, not us.
My kid hit a gun show and found a bunch of powder from someone getting out of shooting, had him pick me up about 8 lbs of H335 and 3 lbs of 8208 XBR. 335 was $20/lb and the 8208 was $33/lb (not factory fresh stuff). Will work just fine for my .223 loading needs. |

With the hot and dry weather the last 6+ weeks our range has been closed due to a county wide Stage 2 fire ban as well as a wild fire nearby so I've been relegated to cleaning and prep'ing brass, inventorying my components, and ensuring I had the proper quantity of the various calibers I need loaded and ready to go.
Inventorying and weighing my powder kegs I found that I had 2 lbs less of W-748 than I thought but had 1½ lbs of Unique and 1 lb more TAC than I had listed on my charts. As I use more of the TAC and Unique by far than W-748 I consider that a win! I also found I had a loose wire to the LED taillight bulb on my custom $6.18 center toolhead light I made in 2018 caused by constantly pulling it out of the center of the toolhead to swap calibers so I re-soldered it and secured it with some silicone so it's GTG. In addition, I found a box with 198 Speer 180grn .40s&w Gold Dot HP, packaged under Vendor STK No. 953962B and sold in 250 rd lots back in 2004 for $30 as they had the wrong primer for the LEO contract they were produced for. I thought I'd shot all of those decades ago. Then I weighed my stock of ammo for count and found I had 53 more Hornady FMJ 62 grn 5.56 loads but 19 less 255 grn .45 Colt than I had recorded. |

With all these posts about picking up range brass, I thought I'd dive in too so I decided to go out to our range yesterday (Yes, we're still in a Stage 2 Fire Ban so it's still closed) and walked the different firing lines to see what was in the 55 gal brass bins. In all, I picked up a couple of 5 gal buckets of scrap brass.
I looked for good reloadable brass but found only 20 pieces of Winchester 30-30 and 19 pieces of Remington 30-06 that were clearly first fired. I could tell they were as I also found the boxes they bought them in. Then I culled out the minimal steel and aluminum cases I'd failed to screen out and shook out the dirt. Then I weighed my haul and was surprised to find that I had collected 57 lbs of brass. Adding that to the 61 lbs I'd collected since fall of last year, I had a total of 118 lbs. So, this morning I took a ride to our scrap brass place and was pleased to find that they were paying $2.15 per lb for yellow scrap brass. I walked out with a check for $253.70 plus a few more 30-30 and 30-06 brass for my stash. All for just helping to keep our range clean and tidy. Handloading is definitely enjoyable! |
